Did not enjoy the new enemy troops at all.

If there was one thing i didn’t like about the game it was the new bad guys. There was nothing fun about them, they didn’t have unique characteristic that made them stand out, they were just there. A couple flying thingies, a cat thing with some variations, and the Knights with it’s variations and that’s it. None of them had “that thing” that make a character stand out. And the revelation about what the Knights are had zero impact on me because those things were just soulless constructs just there fighting you. It was literally just running around shooting at targets.

And the Covenant also suffer from this blandness as well. They were just there on that world and they just started attacking you and that’s it, that’s all you get about them. And it wasn’t till late in the game that i actually started to pay attention to see if they even speaking because outside of the a Grunt and a Jackal grumble here and there they almost seem silent.

343 needs to put a little bit more development into the bad guys next time cause this time around it wasn’t as fun shooting things.

It’s a very good game and I had a lot of fun playing it. But, yeah, not overly thrilled with the new enemies or their weapons for that matter. Everytime I was stuck with one of their guns I found myself wishing for it’s human or Covenant counterpart. And where’s my gorram plasma rifle?

Also don’t like this trend that started with Reach of having the aliens speak their native language. Makes sense sure, but I like to hear what they’re saying. Takes a lot of the humor away from the grunts and the IWHBYD skull. Loved all the stuff the Brutes and Grunts would say in Halo 3, “He was my lover!”, Ha!

You’re nuts. Them speaking English TOTALY took away from the setting of " You are fighting aliens you know nothing about that just want to kill you… now survive.". That was the whole thing about halo. I like how they expanded on their language and it wasn’t just a bunch of wort wort wort.

They are aliens they SHOUKDNT talk/act like us. If I wanted that I’d play battlefield. The Prometheans are constructs made for combat and nothing else. The focus is SUPPOSED to be on the history of Halo / ancient humans and the didact… and where the universe is headed… not gay love between two guys you shot in the face.

I disagree with the talking bit very much. I constantly hear covenant talk, with frequent uses of the words demon and sangheili. I love it because it really sounds like they’re speaking and not just spouting giberish.

i was going to make some sort of ludicrus rant about The Promtheans and their scret alliance with the Great Horned Rat and The New World Order but in my old age I’m afraid that I need to reserve my energy for more pressing topics.

I was pretty unhappy with the way the new enemies worked myself. There was no strategic movement whatsoever on their part. Considering they can teleport around, I would have imagined them trying to flank me when I ducked behind cover. Instead they just acted like glorified elites and stood there waiting for me to poke my head out or threw a grenade.

The forerunner weapons werent very impressive either. Theyre literally just reskinned, recolored copies of guns that already exist in the game. Considering how advanced the forerunner were, I really expected more.

As for the talking aspect, considering we’ve been in a tentative alliance with the elites for almost 5 years, and were at war with them for however many years prior, its not unreasonable to think that we would have translation devices capable of understanding what they say. Even prior to HALO 4, im sure we would have had atleast some idea about their language.

After interacting with the covenant for so long, its simply assinine to think that the UNSC wouldnt have learned their language(s).

I love the Prometheans. They proove a challenge because they work as a team. The knight holds up the rear, with the watcher as backup while the crawlers swarm you. At higher difficulties this is brutal. Especially since some crawlers have BINARY RIFLES WTH? xD

And I’ll never forget when I played Shutdown, there was a knight in a tower about a hundred meters away. I looked down the scope of my BR and was ready to fire a burst of hot lead when he looked right at me. I froze for a second but then squeezed the trigger, but it was too late, the Knight suddenly flew right at me in a zigzag pattern and in a split second stood looming before me. He raised his blade made of solid light and brought it crashing down upon me.

Fond memories ^^

Covies are too mindless and don´t interact with eachother enough.
Jul’mdama terminal isn’t enough.

Prometheans grew stale because they’re mindless.
A Sentinel leaves impression to have greater intelligence and awareness than the Promethean enemies. :frowning:

Yeah, fact that they’re basically just AIs or “digitized” beings or whatever took away from it. I mean, this was ok when it was Sentinels or Flood because they were always your “other” enemies. I feel like your main opponents should actually seem like a fellow living soldier who can actually die.

And on top of that, gameplay wise it didn’t help that the AI for enemies in this game was atrocious compared to the high standards set by its predecessors. Stressing out about that pack of grunts with Fuel Rod Cannons? No worries, as soon as they spot you, the one in back will rocket everyone in front of him. Having trouble with that pesky Elite? Don’t worry, he’ll soon try to lob a grenade at you, but instead throw it into the object directly in front of him, and then be too stupid to realize his own grenade is about to detonate two feet away.

Prometheans were no better. They have all these cool teleportation moves they can use to get to cover, flank you, or attack you, but they rarely do so to any significant advantage on their part. They basically behaved like less nimble Elites with larger hitboxes. Halo CE had better AI. They just aren’t that challenging or fearsome, which in my book equates to fun. I think the fact that I have not used the Plasma Pistol overcharge once in this Halo and have to turn on Legendary with Thunderstorm, Catch, and Tough Luck to get a challenge says it all.

As for the talking part, I wish they had included an option to toggle English and Covenant languages. Personally, keeping them speaking their native tongues is always preferable when playing the campaign through for the first time to get into the story. But for replay value or co-op when you’re just playing for fun hearing grunts and elites, especially with IWHBYD on, can be hilarious.

Wrong actually. The Storm Covenant and why they are at requiem is explained in the Thursday War book and in some of the terminals. And you are wrong about their noise. They actually talk and make sound quite a lot actually in game. The elites even say “Wort Wort Wort” again.

I do however think that they would speak in Sangheili and English like in CE. After all, it is obvious that they can speak english so its stupid for 343 to make them speak Sangheilian only.

Not impress by the AI, the Storm works together better than the Covenant in Reach though. Still they are lackluster, even more when compared to Halo CE or 2. I had high expectation about the Prometheans, and they were sadly a bit disapointing. Crawlers, Knights and Watchers do synergises well, but with all their abilities I was expecting so much more, especially from the Knights.

As for the language, 343 actually made the Covies look fearsome when they speak. Still I loved them speaking english. IWHBYD should turn English on when activated, as we meet so few marines that it’s not even worth it for them anyway.

To be honest, the new enemies are pretty much just variations of the same 3 types of enemy, re skinned and with different stats. The guns are extremely similar to already existing guns, with a twist and dramatically upped power ratings.

You are right but then again the previous games didn’t really have much soul in them either, yes you’d get the random brute saying, “I’m going to feast on you”, but still, not much other than that.

For 5 I would like more of a trio going on with the Arbiter, Jul and the Didact.

There could be quite the story going on, power struggle, Arbiter seeing the Didact using the Sangheili for his own purpose fully willing to sacrifice them for his own purpose.

I AM assuming that both the Didact is alive and that most of his knights have been lost and has a need to use the Storm if not most of all the Sangheili. We may see the reemergence of the Prophets and whatever forces they took with themselves.

Yeah it was pretty sad that beyond the lancer, the other two knight classes were merely armor abilities + sometimes heavier weapons.

They also needed a big unit like hunters/chieftains/zealots that made you recognize a special threat when seeing them.

I absolutely love the assassination on the knight where you rip of their arm and impale them with the pointy end, just based on that it’s worth it for me

I actually strongly enjoy the new enemy types. They felt very different when compared to the Covenant. I felt like the Knight have pretty good tactics on a single unit level. A knight would flank or teleport behind me…etc…I do agree about the covenant talking though, it felt odd for all of a sudden humanity forgot the translation software…I mean bungie had them go back to speaking “alien” because we hadn’t developed the tech by the time of halo reach. I know that was only a canon reason, but I wonder if 343 actually has a logical reason for it, I honestly can’t think of anything.

I’m going to have to respectfully disagree. Story-wise, I was very engaged and drawn into them without knowing exactly what they were, so when their backstory was revealed, it really got me.

And in terms of gameplay, I thought there was a lot of variation between them among themselves (and between them and the Covenant). When they were first introduced, I found them to be very, very challenging. As the game went on and I began to teach myself more strategies to take them down they certainly got easier, but it definitely took a lot of learning, and I still had trouble with the later levels.
