Did Infinite kill my Xbox One?

I installed Infinite and played earlier today without issue. This evening I start up the Xbox and find a black screen. Not in the game, the Xbox itself. I can hear it’s start up sound but nothing appears on my monitor. If I push the Xbox button on the controller I get the “What do you want to do?” screen with shutdown, startup etc. no problem. I tried “report a problem” but it just sits there with “collecting information”. Restart works but just comes back to the black screen.

I tried a full shutdown and unplugged the power supply. No change same black screen. I’m going to try conecting the Xbox directly to my TV instead of going through the AV receiver, but not hopeful.

Suggestions on what I should try?

PS: Additionally, I do see the green Xbox One animation on startup, but it then goes to black. My name appears briefly to sahow I successfully signed in.

UPDATE: VorHerrschen gave me this link to access the reset menu. How to access the troubleshoot menu
Everything is back in order and I have played Infinite successfully.

Hard reset if you can do it without having to go to settings.

I had this exact problem, only this happened several months ago so it wasn’t from halo, did the whole green logo and then went straight to black screen, i think i just turned my TV off and left the xbox on, went to Church, came back and when i turned the TV on the menu had fully loaded. Haven’t had it happen again. I’m also on an OG Xbone, so maybe it’s old console problem?

like joey said i suggest doing a HARD RESET and give it a good 5 mins and see what happens next.

I’ve had Minecraft kill my Series X. It shut down by itself when I wanted to play a marketplace map after 5 seconds of being in the world. Then the console light flickered weirdly so I unplugged it. Been fine after that, but it’s only funky with that one world in MC.

Hard reset being touch and hold power button until shutdown, then unplug? Doing that and going for a walk. I’ll get back here in a bit.
Thanks to all for the suggestions and comments.

yeah hold it for like 15 seconds until it completely powers down and unplug correct. Goodluck dude

I suggest doing a hard reset, my Xbox one runs halo infinite just fine. Hold the power button for 10 seconds, then unplug the Xbox for 10 seconds, and plug it back in and turn it on.

Absolutely no joy. I have hard reset many times and tried other variations. Still get the green startup animation, see my name and then black. No menus - zip. I opened a ticket to report it but have not heard back.

No Infinite or any other game for me this weekend. And I can’t go out and buy a Series X anywhere since they are all sold out.
Oh bother.

Try leaving it on overnight or something and see if it resolves itself. I’ve had this happen to me before and it took some patience. Just leave it on and check periodically.

Had this issue a week ago what I did was unplugged my console for 2 minute plugging it back in and waiting a while after turning it back on I heard the black screen bug was caused by a xbox insider dashboard update

Also I heard that powering it on while disconnected from the internet helps speed up the black screen process but I have yet to get the bug again so I can’t test it

I think I know what problem you’re having. Have you tried accessing the hidden troubleshoot menu?

You got it right - thank you for that. Back in business and installing a 6 gig Infinite update now.
Appreciate all the advice.

This has happened to me not too long ago. Contact Microsoft support and they’ll talk you through factory resetting your xbox (its different for different models so I cant just tell you what to do). That’s what fixed it for me. Don’t worry about your games uninstalling, mine didn’t. Only took me like 10 minutes in a live chat to get it fixed.
