I was playing infection with my female companion earlier tonight and I noticed something peculiar when I tried talking to my teammates…
When I plugged in my mike to yell on someone for being on top of the map in Asylum, I was unable to talk to anyone; Nor could I hear anyone. I turned my Preferences to put voice through TV and Mic.
Then I tried plugging the mic into her controller (She was my Guest). She could talk to everyone just fine. Then I tried switching controllers with her. Nope, could not talk to anyone.
Was wondering what the heck was up with that? I can still send voice messages and private chat with people. It’s just I can’t talk to my teammates whenever I play Reach…
Likely you were, the mute ban is flawed horribly, people can mute you for no reason and you’ll get muted
Bit of information on it:
> The first Mute Bans are not permanent.
>
> The period of time you are banned will increase as the number of bans you’ve had increases.
>
> They can range from 3-7 days up to 3 months.
>
> As a suggestion, use the Team and Party option in the Matchmaking Voice section of the Audio Video Menu if you’re going to play a list like MLG where muting the other team is common.

I don’t know Moa, he said the guest could still talk. I’ve noticed some wonkiness with people who have guests and mics…and the mic is almost always on the guest’s profile. I haven’t figured out why.
Now I understand you say team mates but if the player was on top of the map I take it he was human ?
If that was the case and you yourself were a zombie you wouldnt have been able to talk to him. You can only talk to memembers of your own team. That said I know alot of mlg players automatically mute the other players in a game so if this applies to you. Then you may have been mute banned.
As for other ways of being banned if you have trash talked enough or and sorry to say a kid with a load voice or you play your tv or music too load then it is alos possible you have been mute banned.
I understand your frustration though as I have kinect, and whilst I have the mic muted it still shows me as having a mic in so I too worry that one day I will get mute banned.

The guest should be able to talk as the mute ban only applies to the account.
Well, if that’s a wild guess.
I always thought that the Kinect mic will auto connect to the guest.
I play BTB when I play solo, but when I play with my GF, we play Infection. I have had a broken mic for a few weeks, and I bought my new one yesterday. I plugged it in, talked with some friends in a chat, then got on Infection and it did not let me talk to anyone. It wouldn’t even register in the lobby.
I really can’t think of why I would be banned. I am 24, never even really talk, and when I do, it’s to talk to friends in private chat =\
Yeah I didn’t think that sounded like a mute ban thing. Like I said, I’ve noticed that guests are usually the ones with mics for some reason. I don’t know why that is but it’s always struck me as weird.
