The reason they might be attacking chief is because they don’t know he’s a reclaimer.
Spoiler:
In glasslands when Halsey and the spartans were in the forerunner building looking for lucy the AIs weren’t interested in the spartans because they couldn’t tell they were human.i haven’t finished the book yet but i thought this might be one part of the reason they suddenly started attacking chief but not the whole reason.
Yeah i know that part, but it was only intrested in the spartans when they took off their helmets. It also wanted to test for signs of the flood, and with there helmets on it couldnt recognize they were human or if they were infected.

Could be interference from their armor. Hasn’t stopped other Monitors and Sentinels from recognizing Spartans as human and Reclaimers.

Exactly, they wouldn’t have put so much importance around them and based a whole book on them then leave it out of the game.
Seeing as they were identified as “Defense AIs”, I think they are much more interested in keeping things away from certain interests, whether it be a building or some other significant object.
Personally, I think they are focused on keeping the place a “Safe Haven” by ensuring anything nearby Requiem gets trapped inside, and making sure nothing leaves the planet. My thinking comes from Cortana’s threat that she doesn’t want John or whoever she was yelling at to leave the planet.
