In the E3 trailer, you see a Grunt–who, by the way, has reverted back to classic-style voice–yelling “I REGRET EVERYTHING!”
The focus on which is put on this Grunt at that specific moment leads me to believe there was some subtler, humorous meaning…
I think that was 343i trying to tell us that they regret some of the decisions they made with Halo 4–reflected by the fact that the Grunt’s voice is classic Staten-style again.
Not a bad theory. Of course I could just be the grunt regrets working with Jul but I like your theory a lot better.
Or it is a play on words, being the prophet of regret

Yes, thank goodness that’s back. Hopefully more of Halo’s aside humor is included as well. I’m wondering how often we’ll get to see AI soldiers fighting with you to get some of their commentary, though.

Never thought about that… I’m just glad some humor is back. It hasn’t been the same without Johnson (RIP) Most of the attempted jokes in H4 were a bit bland. At least the grunts will be good for some humor.
Or maybe the Chief came through and that grunt was the last one alive.

Actually, the grunt couldn’t have been regretful considering they’re essentially slaves, so that’s possible.
This was the first thing I thought of.
