Hello users of these forums. I have done a test last weekend with on how I would perform in Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and Halo 4 after not playing Xbox for a while. All of these tests are based on how I did each of these games. I honestly did not like the idea of not playing for a while, but I just had to see how I’d do. I’ll start breaking down how it went for me:
(Quick note, it is on how fun and how I performed for each one.)
Halo 3:
For all the matches I have done in Halo 3, I have had an easy time getting used to everything. I won two matches and had little lag issues. Had fun pwning players as an Elite (wort wort wort) and had a great time.
Halo: Reach:
Man, I am not going to lie. I had fun playing Invasion again. I had little trouble getting used to Sprint being an AA, and switching nades, but I pulled through. Was really fun overall. Had one match of the enemy team spawn killing though.
Halo 4
This, is when I felt something off. I had little more trouble getting used to Halo 4 than Reach, but I have gotten better afterwards. A friend of mine wanted to tag along, so he got on board. Then we go play Multi-team (since he didn’t have Majestic unfortunately, he hated what 343i did) and the match was laggy. We scrapped the idea of doing Multi, so we went to Ricochet. We had lost two of those matches. One due to a glitch, and due to bad teammates (I know, we have to have a full team to succeed.) The glitched ones did not respawn at all, after their one death they didn’t come back. The bad ones, let’s just say they cared about K/D’s and good kills only. Overall though, the rest of the matches was great.
Now, what I have drawn upon this is that Halo 3 is much, much easier to get used to out of all three. Halo Reach and 4 and much harder to. Not only that, but had few more issues than 3. So, that is what I have learned from this. Leave any comments if you like.
I still play 3 from time to time, but Reach still annoys me. The only transitional problems I have going from 4 to 3 is the Magnum’s rate of fire. Halo 3’s obviously shoots slower because of dual wielding, and going from fast shooting to slow shooting is a nice challenge.

I know my post sounds bias, but it’s what I have collected when I tested all three. Also, I played 4 matches of each game as I can recall. Thanks for taking point in it too.
Last year I let my son sell all my old Halo games so that he could get Skyrim. I’ve spent the last month re-acquiring them because I miss them. I didn’t realize how much i’d missed them, but I’ve made it clear to my son that they are NOT available for resale.
I’ve been enjoying Reach Firefight. I’ve been re-acquainting myself with the awesomeness of the grenade launcher.
I had cheap internet when H2 came out and had little MM experience there. Most of my MM experience was with H3. I haven’t played any H3 MM yet, but I remember being totally confused about the equipment pickups and, as a result, not using them very much. It didn’t seem to matter one way or the other. I had become a regular forum goer by then and I don’t recall any real fuss about weapons or equipment. Generally, good times were had by all.
Since this thread seems to be about MM I won’t go into how much fun ODST was for me again.
Reach. I really like Reach. I especially like the effort Bungie put into allowing players to feel like they were Noble One. How the character in the cutscenes is you. Reach was the game where generic SPARTANs gave way to custom SPARTANs, and you could choose the weapons and equipment that suited your playstyle. This obviously caused some problems with MM, but it was clear that Bungie thought this was an avenue worth pursuing. If you research Destiny you’ll see what I mean.
343i definitely did not see what Bungie saw. While H4 has the elements of Reach, the implementation is… off. The potential is there but they’re not getting it. H4 is about 1/4 the fun it could be.
Halo 3 is the best Halo on 360 but H2 was magic. I never played HCE MP so I cant comment on it. Halo 3’s core gameplay translated to all aspects of the game(Customs,Co-Op, Matchmaking). This is why its better than Reach and 4. It was simple but took skill to be good. As a Halo 2 player I never understood why Bungie slowed movement speed and made weapons projectile instead of hitscan.
My main issue with Reach is it isnt an improvement on Halo 3’s core gameplay. Shooting in Reach became a chore with bloom. AAs added to the frustration by allowing people to go invis, sprint away, jet pack above cover, and of course the infamous Armor Lock.
That being said Bungie did improve Customs, Co-Op and Forge which is where Reach really shines. Customs and Co-op is unmatched to this day, Reach set industry standards in this category IMO.
343 was focused on all the wrong things so thats why Halo 4 feels all wrong. Halo 4 feels like it could be better than Halo 3 but 343 refuses to embrace what made Halo great…balance and simplicity. Perks, loadouts, PODs, default sprint dont improve anything, ANYTHING about previous Halos. Halo 4 feels like its trying to be something else. I dont get it and I’ll never understand why 343 went in this direction. Best thing about Halo 4 is its weapon variety. Problem is 343 didnt use this in a “Halo way”. For example, Team Slayer should have been even starts with variants for every primary(team BRs,carbines, LRs, etc). AAs could have been map pick ups alongside tradition power ups.
Halo 4 is what it is. It was made by people who “hated” certain aspects of past Halos. 343 said it themselves. Its easy to take that out of context but even in context this is the wrong approach.
Halo 3 is the most accessible out of those 3 games. It’s very simplistic gameplay wise, but it is still tougher than most shooters. Halo 4 is not accessible like halo 3 was, which is ironic because that’s what 343 tried to do.

First, I did thank you for your post
Next, the movement speed, among other things, was reduced because you were a SPARTAN III on Reach. Reach is a massive planet much bigger than Earth. Bungie did the math and made the characters react accordingly. They did the same thing for the cut scene where the Pillar of Autumn takes off. This is what I meant about the attention to detail Bungie has that 343i does not.
Reach was Bungie’s last chance to do something with the game they so loved, so they threw everything they could into it in the limited amount of time Microsoft gave them. Had they had half the time they have had to make Destiny, Reach may have been the greatest FPS of all time. As it is, it’s hard not to appreciate what they did. Some may not like the AA’s, but Matchmaking, Customs, Forge and Theater, not to mention the coding, are standards 343i has not met.

I’m glad for you too. I give Reach’s customs and forge a lot of praise as those are the best halo has to offer as far as options go. The game mechanics though were far worse than any other halo in my opinion. I like how the campaign used your character, but the story was vastly underwhelming from how the book made the event appear to be along with a horrible ending for your character.
