Hey everyone I just want to bring this to attention. Im a machinima director, and I’ve made a few machinimas in halo 4 already.
One of the series I make is called Monkey Patrol, which follows some guys within an urbanized city lifestyle.
Some of my sets that I have created are completely indoor, and look ridiculous with the generating lighting effect that comes with the forge pieces. However, I have been able to avoid any real issues with it in my machinimas, because in theater the lighting effect wouldn’t be on. Making everything in my completely in-closed map bright and normal.
However with this new TU it is stating that it will be fixing the issue of lighting not working in some theater games. Now I know this is probably something 343 thinks needs fixing, but in all honestly I think that there should be no generated lighting in theater.

If the effect is on in theater it makes all the Spartans glow like flashlights in a completely dark surrounding. Making Halo 4 machinimas and indoor custom maps so much more unappealing.

Theater isn’t about looking at shadows honestly, it’s about capturing your epic moments in the game. Whether there is shadow there or not should really make a big deal.
Sorry if this sounds stupid or immature, but I’m just concerned as a machinima director who is trying to make multiple machinimas in Halo 4. With the lighting fix it will totally ruin the appeal of the machinima.
Aren’t there lights you can use to make it brighter? I don’t know if the Dominion lights actually do anything, but the spherical ones do.
There are two spherical lights that are available in forge. Those two lights in no way can light up an entire room, for a machinima. Also it does not create the same type of lighting that it does with no generated lighting on.
Also the dominion lights do not work.
Make the higher floors and roof spawn in after a delay that is less than ten seconds, rather than being placed at start. This will cause them to spawn after “lighting” (actually shadowing) is generated, but during the loadout screen. They won’t cast shadows unless the game host migrates after they’ve spawned.
EDIT: Not yet sure if this works post-TU, but I see no reason why it wouldn’t.

There are way more than two available and you can place up to four of them. You could definitely light a room up with those.
Halo 4 really ruined the chance of making many other types of Halo machinima. :\
Of course, if you ever want to have aliens in a machinima, I’m sure you’ll be delighted and surprised to find that it is no longer possible.
No theater for campaign/SO and no Elites in multiplayer.
If the despawning thing is true then I have to really thank you sir. I’m going to go test that out right now. All I needed was a way to work around that issue.
Well, i’ve got no problems with filming machinimas in Halo 4.
For the record, b4 forming a machinima, you should test out the maps. Forge, i could careless. I have already ideas set.
Don’t worry I think I know what I’m doing with my machinimas
Props to you, op. Halo 4 made machinima-making so much harder than it was in halo 3 or reach. Good luck.
umm, why don’t you just purposely break the lighting then. Just place a bunch of high value items off screen, then BAM! no more lighting. problem solved.
