Did 343 finish the game?

Im seeing more and more posts of people complaining about these free monthly updates that we are getting every month. Most of the arguments revolve around the following idea in one way or another

The Game Is Unfinished

My question is, What constitutes a game as finished? I mean, the game shipped with a full campaign, multiplayer, theater, and custom games.

Also 343 Announced WAY ahead of time that they will be offering free updates and content for the spring/ and summer. So they are not done adding things to the game yet, but what I don’t get is that why people are hating on 343i when they were told ahead of time that FREE CONTENT will be coming

What people need to understand is that now halo has moved to a next gen console, more time, money and resources are needed to develop a AAA Title so that it can meet the graphical expectations that are being set. Plus the added weight of the deadlines that Microsoft had put on them with both MCC and H5 which side note… also split the team.

Im just confused as to why people are not satisfied with this fantastic product that 343 has busted their -Yoink- to make for us which is also being continually updated for free

I cant accept that as Halo 3 was the first Halo in HD, on a new console and it shipped with tons of content, heck it was the first game with forge in it. They did it in the 3 year cycle, surely 343 can as well. Or should we hold them to a lesser standard b/c “evolution” -_- .

I’m not holding them to a lesser standard, H5 now has forge… a WAY better forge (a little too much for me to handle but it’s hella powerful) but I digress. What I’m saying is that compared to other halo games, H5 by far has THE most assets out of any halo game, which again… Takes time and resources

What do you mean by assets? Tangible content? - Dont interpret me as condescending I’m genuinely interested

Its hilarious to people bring up development time as an issue, yet Halo 1 and Halo 3 shipped with more content.

Assets meaning quite literally anything and everything in the game, so not only campaign levels, but every piece of rubble, every box and torch and mountain and rock and statue and crater and scripted sequence and weapon and game mode and req and armor and everything… What i’m saying is now that the X1 has the horse power to render BETTER looking graphics, it takes more times to draw and create more realistic looking environments, characters, weapons… Etc

Well then maybe they should have spent less time on the graphics and more time on actual content.

Lmfao are you serious right now? This game looks like an incredibly bland Halo 4 HD game. This isn’t a complete game when Like 70% of game modes are still missing. When warzone only has like 3 maps. I want whatever you’re smoking.

Maybe you should spend less time complaining and whining and more time getting a job and learning how hard a job is and realize how hard it is to make a game and make one that people will love. Halo 5 is amazing, it may not be the best Halo but it is not the worst and is far from being terrible. Stop arguing about this and just go play the game and if you don’t like Halo 5 play a past Halo game or a different game.

Just because it is bland (I wouldn’t say it’s wholly bland, either) doesn’t mean that work didn’t go into it, or that the work is any easier. It’s more to do with the direction of the art style, which I don’t see them on eye to eye.

He’s saying that more work is required to make the assets, not that there is less content. Content =/= Assets, (But the latter makes up the former, and the latter being more difficult/harder to nail down probably feeds into the former additionally)

well EA would say; the game is complete -lol. Looks like 343i did the same :\ Less content…

> it can meet the graphical expectations that are being set.

First, whenever anyone talks about the resources poured into making the graphics as good as possible.
A good art style is almost always enough to carry a game that has sub-standard graphical quality.

Also -Yoinking!- sick of more value being put on how a game looks than how it actually feels or plays.

> What constitutes a game as finished?

When it has roughly the same amount of features as the previous few games and not significantly less.

I can understand some gamemodes being cut or replaced from title to title. The problem is the game launched with like…three(?) distinct gamemodes then a few flavors of slayer.

The game shipped gutted of content the users have been used to having for years. They focused more on frame rate than game quality and shared experiences like split screen.

Honestly, I do believe maybe the free updates should of mainly been just map and req updates. These may have resulted in decent skins. Yes, I am talking about the pizza skin. However, the content we have is up to standard. My only issue, is that bugs that were not seen in launch, eg Grifball ball being throne out of the ring, was not seen and dealt with. That is my only problem with the updates. Like them, but needs to be thought upon.

> Lmfao are you serious right now? This game looks like an incredibly bland Halo 4 HD game. This isn’t a complete game when Like 70% of game modes are still missing. When warzone only has like 3 maps. I want whatever you’re smoking.

It really doesn’t. The graphics are pushing the Xbox One to the max, and the focus is on maintaining a stable 60fps at all times. The lighting and effects are way beyond anything that Halo 4 offered, although the textures and resolution could sometimes use improvement.

Still, if you don’t like the graphics, blame the console. The Xbox One is an underpowered piece of junk, not even equivalent to a current mid range graphics card.

> Its hilarious to people bring up development time as an issue, yet Halo 1 and Halo 3 shipped with more content.

halo CE was built made and ready long before it was launched, bungie had it made and ready before Microsoft brought them out, it was a case of oh this game looks good lets change it from a 3rd person to a 1st person and sell it. There was years of work into it long before Microsoft got involved and released it

> My question is, What constitutes a game as finished?

A finished game is one that made it through it’s intended development cycle prior to launch. No one outside of 343 will ever know if that’s what happened with Halo 5. If forge was intended to be a part of the game at launch and was intentionally left out, then the game was incomplete at launch. If it was always 343’s intention to release it later then the game shipped as expected and was for all intents and purposes complete.

The gaming industry as a whole is moving towards this mentality of releasing a game and adding more to it later. The main difference between Halo 5 and other games is that many of the other games make you pay for the additional content (see every other Halo games with DLC to date). People keep complaining about things that are still ‘missing’ from Halo 5 but if they weren’t intended to be in the game in the first place then they’re not really missing, you just feel entitled to them because it’s what you think should be included.

Did 343 plan to include things like infection in Halo 5? My guess is that they probably didn’t, but so many people expect it to be there and therefore consider the game incomplete.

TL;DR - Just because something you want isn’t in a game doesn’t mean it’s incomplete.

TL;DR - Just because something you want isn’t in a game doesn’t mean it’s incomplete.

^^^^ EXACTLY what i am trying to get at,

And for the record, I didn’t mean to make this about graphics… I could give a -Yoink- but I don’t.

I think the biggest complaint is infection, I personally don’t like it but the community LOVES it… And people are getting this impression that 343 doesnt care about the community, like literally that makes 0 sense… 343 is a company, so in turn wants to make money (thats what a business is) and -Yoink!- off the community isn’t helping them in any way. On the other hand, Im not a game dev, but Could we look at 343 holding off on content as a way for them to perfect it, and tweak it so that it doesn’t ship as something that is crappy and broken.

“well it should’ve shipped that way”

Who died and made you in charge of what should and shouldn’t be in the game?

“we are the audience and customers”

Thats true, but that doesn’t mean they have to bow down to you guys. You have to try and look at it from the dev’s perspective. Would you rather ship a game that is not finished and buggy, or ship a game that can be built up and have your guys’ favorite content added on later FOR FREE mind you… Keep in mind that id they DID add all content and game modes, that by itself is a HUUUUUGE feat. and after the trainwreck that was MCC, I see that 343 is playing it safe, so i mean yeah its kinda lame, but its a smart move, plus I kinda like having monthly updates. It gives me a reason to come back and enjoy my favorite game

343 and EA are not the same thing… WAY far from… I don’t recall seeing

Halo 5 Guardians
Halo 5 Guardians: Season Pass
Halo 5 Guardians: Deluxe Edition
Halo 5 Guardians: Gold Edition
Halo 5 Guardians: Non Offensive Edition

Yes they have the warzone req packs you can pay for… Or you can get the SAME exact thing for free by playing the game

I think people are holding Halo 5 to a different standard than other games.

Is Halo 5 a completed product, specifically video game? Yes. It works, has single and multi player and doesn’t have game breaking issues.

Is Halo 5 a completed Halo game? Maybe not. I’m pretty easy to please, but I 100% understand why people believe that this isn’t a good Halo game. Or a good game for that matter.
