Hello. I’ve made a couple of maps in Forge inspired by an old laser-tag game I used to play years ago. They were called “Alpha Base 13” and “Omega Base 9.” Up until a couple of days ago the verification system had no problem with these names, but now it’s saying those are “bad” names and won’t display the names on Xbox Live. I’ve tried a couple of alternate names: “Omega Arena 9” works but “Alpha Arena 13” is also considered “bad.”
Could someone please tell me what is it about those two names that is so “bad” that I can’t even see the name of my own maps on Xbox Live when I go to Forge or Custom Games?
I did load these on the fileshare but have since taken them off. Wonder if putting them on the fileshare may have had something to do with it, but then again I have an unfinished map I’m calling “Alpha-II Base” and it too is now considered a “bad” name.

Might have to do that. Unfortunately I’m pretty new here so I don’t know who’s on the web staff.
I’m also wondering if this is Micro$haft’s doing rather than 343’s, because I’ve heard that Micro$haft has recently cranked up the sensitivity of the profanity filter on Xbox Live. If that’s the case there may not be much anyone can do.

I’ll bet money that that’s the case, given that the filter’s always been ridiculously sensitive.
I swear, Microsoft is literally just doing this to troll players. There’s no other rational explanation for why the filter is so absurdly idiotic.
The language/word filter in Reach is just plain ridiculous. I mean, the game even censors names it assigns when you select auto-name, as well as default descriptions like “Waterfront on Heroic, Saturday January 29, 2011 01:50:08”; it didn’t consor exactly that, but you get what I mean.
No offense meant, but that’s just plain limited. >:(
Edit: Interesting. The forums censors and changes r.e.t.a.r.d.e.d (without the dots) to limited…
Lemme stop you right there. The filter isn’t implemented in Reach. It is a Microsoft-managed filter applied to all user-created content uploaded to Xbox Live.
Of course, Reach seems to control what parts of a file the filter actually checks. In Halo 3, one’s gamertag was embedded into the files, but it wasn’t checked by the filter. In Halo: Reach, it is. (Which is bad news for anyone whose gamertag contains one of the hundreds of obviously-innocent words that the world’s most braindead filter believes to be obscene.)

Lol, reminds me of SA’s “gently caress” wordfilter.
Maybe this would explain why half the race maps disappeared overnight from a filtered search for maps tagged with “race.” I enjoy downloading them and giving them a run or two with my buddies after matchmaking is done for the night, but I haven’t been able to find any new ones.

Sometimes its not the profanity filter at all, its just how you capitalize the map/clip/pic/gt name. It either has to be in all caps, or all lowercase.

I know that. Bad choice of words on my part. But my point is that the names and/or descriptions the game itself assigns automatically are then censored. I mean, how stupid can it get?

Nope. There’s usually between five and fifteen race maps (of varying quality and actual compatibility with race mode, most of the incompatible ironically containing “race” in the name of the map) per day for my buddy and I to check out. Coinciding with the date of the Original Post, there has been the same History100 race at the top of the list three nights running. In fact, the list hasn’t changed since the other day, and my buddy confirmed it by searching with my exact specifications (in case there was some weird thing between me and the fileshare search server).
I know damn well that the whole world didn’t just decide “welp, done with those race maps!” so they’re just not showing up for some reason or another. I really couldn’t tell you if it’s the filter or not, since a bunch of other maps still show up tagged with race; I can tell you that, like I said, the date that the search stopped giving me new maps is the date that the OP made this post.
Ya i know my maps have been up for months and now…They are description blam! just about 4 days ago…so ya this all coincides. something happened with your filter 343 and its kinda bothersome
