Diamondback Map

I get that. My thought process is that H2A lacks maps and although it’s not a H2 map, it is a “classic” map.

Putting aside own thoughts/opinions on Halo 2 Anniversary’s overall status (cough consolidateitallintoH4MP cough), doing so could be argued to be contrary to the core purpose(?) of the “Anniversary” version of a previous title.

That’s not to say I am completely opposed to Sidewinder/Avalanche/Diamondback/etc. or other iterations of legacy maps appearing in successor titles… but just not in unrelated Anniversary editions.

Just felt like I should point out that according to the mod tools, its in 3’s files already to an extent.

People asking for it to not go to 3 are largely misunderstanding just what would have to be done to add it to another game, and that at a certain point it stops being a port and starts being something wholly original due to the changes required to make it happen.

Although I fully support the remake/ remaster of all of the Halo 2 maps into Halo 2 Anniversary, I don’t see 343 doing this anymore. If memory serves me correct, the maps we have currently were made by sabre interactive. I can’t see 343 outsourcing again to get these remade for 2:A unfortunately, whereas the H:O maps already exist.

Agreed. Halo 3 has space for more BTB style maps, and despite what people dislike about halo online, they do fit into Halo 3 really well. As mentioned in the other thread, even if we got the port added to ODST firefight (which is possible) I think that it would still be a cool addition to the game, with or without tweaking.

Hence my opinion regarding the currently independent status of Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer.
Consolidate it all into Halo 4, in the same manner as Halo CEA MP is integrated into Halo Reach’s MP / was a DLC pack for Halo Reach’s MP…

  • H2A Forge mechanic overhaul for Halo 4 Forge
  • All H2A maps transferred to H4
  • Unique H2A weapons (Sentinel Beam, Plasma Rifle, Brute Plasma Rifle, Silenced/SMG, Brute Shot, etc.) imported to all maps in H4 MP
  • Unique H2A vehicles/aircraft (Gungoose, Scorpion with coaxial MG, Wraith with no repeater seat but improved mortar performance, Hornet, Heretic Banshee, standard Banshee with no fuel rod cannon) imported to relevant maps in H4 MP
  • Unique H2A interactive/destructible elements (stalactites, EMP emitters, doors, etc.) imported to the overhauled H4 Forge
  • H2A settings (no sprint, etc.) as options in Custom Game settings
  • All H2A Spartan armor components modified and imported for Halo 4 Spartan armor customization
  • (un)fortunately, no playable Elites in H4, so all H2A Elite customization gets shelved for a while (or eventually ends up rebuilt for Halo 3 Elite customization)

I can’t see 343 outsourcing again to get these remade for 2:A unfortunately

With the upcoming release of Halo 4’s mod tools, combined with the hypothetical consolidation mentioned above, 343i won’t need to do so - the community will likely do so on their own.

All that would be left is to either officially add community-created content into the base game, or to set up some kind of custom map overflow like Custom Edition had, instead of the current (EAC-off) map file replacement system in MCC.

Reasonable point.

Has forge palette potential in H3 is my only caveat.

How well do the HO maps port to reach?
Cause id take em all if they transitioned well.

As for diamond back im not against it but skybridge and reactor were the 2 maps Iwanted most in mcc from online so id rather those personally.

However.

If diamond back was added to matchmaking with a promethean vision power up.
Sprint, visr and hardlight shield pick ups amd the dmr on the map over the br itd be a pretty big switch up to the gameplay from avalanche.

At this point, I’m just gonna be the one to ask the big question bluntly, since everyone’s talking about it. Can a H:O map REALLY be ported over to any other MCC game as easily as everyone seems to be claiming to be? OR, is it even possible to begin with?

Ya haha asked the same question.

But it is possible for halo 3, reach and 4 without question.
If its resource efficient im not so sure.
Haven’t messed with blam in a while.

problem is that the Anniversary update for Reach was implicitly made for Reach the moment it was conceptualized, meanwhile H2A Multiplayer, while mostly an updated Halo 4, was still made independently and modified to a point that it becomes much more difficult to fully merge the two together (it would be safe to compare it to A Tale of Two Wastelands for Fallout 3 and NV; where they had to rebuild Fallout 3 within New Vegas just to avoid the issues presented with Fallout 3’s outdated programming.)

that said; it still might be possible for the two to share a fair few weapons and maps, though very time consuming to complete.

https://twitter.com/The_Psycho_Duck/status/1566606979560120320 - hopefully this answers your question, it’s a reply from one of the MCC devs.

(posted this part in the Halo Online Content in MCC thread) Even if it is not possible, there is room on the Halo 3 multiplayer BTB/ Big Team Heavies for all of the remaining Halo online maps.

Here is a list of all of the BTB maps in Halo MCC

Halo Reach - 9 (6 in Team Heavies)
Halo CE - 6
Halo 2 - 10
Halo 3 - 8 (4 in Team Heavies)
Halo 4 - 14 (9 in Team Heavies)

Well maybe when we get Avalanche maybe I can turn it into a desert theme like Diamond Back when we get Forge. I just hope we can delete those soft and kill barriers in stock maps and put them where we want like we could in Halo Online!

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

I appreciate that. It’s just that so many people are just nonchalantly saying things like “eh, just port it,” with one side saying that it’s possible , and the other saying it’s impossible , and it’s just a mess.

No problem. I get your confusion completely, that’s why I asked the devs. Hopefully, since the files are already in MCC we can see some work or progress on this

Exactly because why should a map with duplicate level design appear in the same game? That’s really not a good idea. So, if Diamondback is going to be added to MCC, it’s better off being added to Halo: Reach, Halo 2: Anniversary, or Halo 4 instead.

Because its been explained a few times now why just trying to drag and drop it away from Halo 3, while to an extent is possible, is not viable in the slightest. on top of that, its been shown that its already set up to be added in Halo 3’s files regardless of peoples feelings on the matter, so its a moot point to argue.

Its honestly not the worst outcome though, since it being in 3 guarantees there will be a map to make use of the newly usable AA Wraith’s, and it could possibly encourage them to reconsider adding the ODST Gauss Turret or event the Halo Online DMR to make it stand out even more.

Because the asset is there waiting to be ported. It’s not a big deal for them to just add it to H3 considering that’s the game it is built for. They can’t just willy-nilly add it into any other game. They each run on unique engines, it would take a lot more dev work to even try something like that and at that point they’d probably be recreating it from the ground up anyways.

However with all this Diamondback talk, let’s not forget about the actually unique assets waiting to be introduced into MCC from H:O - Reactor, Sky Bridge and Powerhaus

Isn’t Powerhaus a 1:1 port of Powerhouse from Reach? Or was it scaled down to fit H3’s gameplay (and lack of option to sprint)?

From what I understand, it was one of the maps with the s3d prefix on its internal name, which indicates it was remade with Sabers in-house toolset as opposed to being a direct port as was the case with the Halo 3 maps.

For comparison:

where Standoff was called Closed Area in Halo Online, internally both were called Bunkerworld as it was a direct port of Halo 3’s map to Online.

Meanwhile for Powerhouse, Reach internally called it 30_settlement, while Halo Onlines unreleased version called it s3d_powerhouse indicating it to be altered/retooled in order to fit.

Problem with these halo online maps is that they aren’t the smoothest of maps on the base Xbox one. Probably why we haven’t seen any since.

Plus prometheans vision and sprint equipment just to have it distinctive as its ow map.
