I don’t know if this is due to a lack of population, but ever since I made it to Diamond rank, I seem to be ranked against champions reasonably frequently. I understand when I have a terrible day online and can’t land my shots, but within the past three days, I found at least four games where I am matched against champions. My team did not have a champion on my side in I believe all but one scenario.
This issue caused me to de-rank to Diamond 1 from Diamond 3. Why am I being matched against players that are rated so much higher? There was even a case where we backed out of the playlist to wait for the other team to find a match, and we were pitted against the same champion next game, which went from top 6 to top 4. Is there something I am doing wrong? I set the play list search to focused. Remaining calm in the situation helps so that I don’t rage and tank harder (This is a WIP. Deep breathing works wonders, trust me.) I was just curious because I don’t want to play against people that are well above my skill level. I will link four games bellow as examples which date from 20\10\19 to about 17\10\19.
Maybe this is all in my head, and it isn’t as bad as I think. But I just wondered if this happened to anyone else? Is this because of the low population in Swat? Is there a way to prevent it and play against people more my level? Thank you!
It’s easy to forget that Champs are Onyx players. They’re the top 200 Onyx players. So since they’re Onyx players, that means they’re only a tier above Diamond, so it’s fairly reasonable for Diamond players to match Champs.

Plus, as Dr Menke has mentioned lots of times, SWAT can flux a lot and it’s not uncommon to see a wider range of ranks because of it.

That is actually a really good point. Thank you for pointing that out. Still feels night and day sometimes. Haha.

I have not seen that, so thank you for reiterating that. You’re a great help, Snickerdoodle! I do miss the population counter from earlier games.

Pop counters are a weird thing.
When they exist, they provide information but they also cause problems for lists. People see a low population list and they’re more inclined to avoid it because of potential wait times and the like. So while it seems like it’d be helpful on paper, they’ve found that they’re not as helpful as they seem over time.
And yes, SWAT’s skill gap is much looser than say, Slayer, which is why you’ll find a greater range of ranks in a lobby. Don’t be too concerned with it.
PS - please don’t post twice in a row. You can quote both of us in one post.

Pop counters:
That is a great point. I was just thinking if the pop counter was low then id know to avoid a gametype that day. So it proves your point. You’ve made me 100% understand that choice. 343 has been doing really well with the mantle of responsibility.
SWAT skill gap:
I understand that it is not 100% accurate, but I did notice that SWAT ranks vary. It seems that people that play SWAT and are there to play SWAT are very very good at the game type. Then the people in lower ranks are not as good and tend to be several divisions below. In Slayer it seems you can play against similar ranks more frequently.
Quoting:
I had no idea. I’ll have to try that going forward. My account may be old, but I was never very active posting in forums. More so just reading abd lurking. Thanks again!
