Note: All opinions are expressed with the game’s BETA state in mind, any feedback is to be considered constructive and aimed towards tailoring a better experience for players in the future.
So while the title might come across as sarcastic, I mean this as a legitimate question to the developers of HW2:
What were you hoping players would get out of Halo Wars 2?
The new game types and methods of play were definitely planned with great thought and a specific play experience in mind. I personally trust creative assembly to bring us another great addition to the franchise along with 343 continuing to do a great job building the universe we all love. The thing is however, as was probably made clear by the pretty consistent theme of posts, there seems to be an air of disappointment in the direction the game is taking.
The decision to add in a new, fast paced game mode on top of a vast amount of new content and rule sets was definitely a big one. This might be throwing players a bit off guard due the the first game being a simple yet versatile experience, which in turn is causing “passionate” responses to the changes. So with such a change in direction from the first game, I have to ask what was your original intentions for how the game should be enjoyed? Providing us with a bit of insight behind your thought process might help players provide more direct feedback on how that experience can be achieved using the new system.
I’m more than happy to learn new formats, strategies and play styles but what was the type of experience you were hoping to provide players? Because to be honest at the moment the game is a bit sloppy and hectic and it’s unclear as to what type of RTS it wants to be.
Anyone reading this, feel free to submit what kind of game experience you want out of Halo Wars 2 and what changes you would make to achieve this experience?
TL;DR: Devs, what experience did you want for the players? Players, what kind of experience do you want from the devs and how does the current state of the game reflect that experience?
