I’m sick of the way games are made these days, mainly to attract new players and give noobs more of a chance. Now before you all bash me, I’m not hating on noobs. I don’t go around abusing noobs, I’m just saying that they’re out there and are being catered to too much which is why skill based ranks and leveling is being removed from a lot of games. We saw it in games like Diablo and WoW. These games used to require effort and skill to rank up in, now it’s basically just a formality. You complete mainly straight forward quests and you level up to 90. Easy.
It’s the same with Halo. They’re making the game a big mess of explosions to appeal to the casual gamer and not doing what Bungie did and make the game challenging from the start but allow a way for noobs to get better, rather than just give them a way to be successful.
Halo 5 needs to return to the structured, skill based style we all love in Halo. If you’re getting pwned, you pratice and you get better. This is what makes skill based ranks so important as well. You feel as if you’ve put the effort into becoming more skilled at the game and you’ve earned your rank, rather than just spending hours getting kills in repetitive scenarios simply to unlock helmets.
I was a noob once. I got Halo 2 in 2005 when the game was already a year old. I was getting owned, but I practiced and practiced, I was getting beat on rank 10, but I got better as a player and when I got my 30 I was screaming because it felt like such an achievement. You feel great when you rank up and you feel bad when you rank down.
In the latest Halo games, there’s no real incentive to get better, and you don’t get the same feeling of achievement when your get your rank up because it doesn’t really require skill.
So in other-words you want 1-50 back. Sure that should return, but the xp system should return as well. If anything the game just needs to match players of equal skill better, which is what CSR was an attempt at.
I’m just not a fan of the current CSR. I typically do the best on my team in CTF as far as too score and K/D goes, usually play defense but regardless, if my teammates do bad, I rank down. I think it should be individual based right now, microphones are rarely used in H4.
> So in other-words you want 1-50 back. Sure that should return, but the xp system should return as well. If anything the game just needs to match players of equal skill better, which is what CSR was an attempt at.
There were other things that contributed besides just the lack of 1-50. Ordnance giving power weapons, the ridiculous amount of aim assist and magnetism and all those mechanics for console FPS, and a slow strafe (Made even more useless by the last thing I said), the list just goes on.
They admitted they made this game easier for newer players to have a less difficult time against better players. No one asked for that. The skill gap is there, but it’s just the smallest it’s ever been.

Yeah I know but these can be removed thus leaving only the ranking system to be considered which allows noobs to play with better players which will prove too much of a challenge
A ranked and social playlist both as well as progressive system as long as Reach’s was for unlocking stuff
I agree.
Easy games are boring. Yes games should have friendly learning curves but that curve should extend miles high. It’s what keeps people interested in your game and keeps them coming back.
There is of course a balancing act, difficulty shouldn’t be punishing, unfair or too frustrating. The trick is to avoid BS, make everything that can kill you avoidable. Make it easy for people to know why they failed when they do loose, so they can develop as a player and learn how to avoid their mistakes next time round and ultimately learn how to win. That’s the hook. Even though the player lost, they have a reason to come back, they can try a new tactic next time.
Above all the flaws Halo 4 may or may not have the main problem for me with it was I felt there was so little room to develop as a player. I kind of got bored with it. I was winning most of my games but I never really felt like I was getting any better at it.
Ranks only serve as a way for players to visualise their progress in this system. It’s the act of thinking strategically and becoming better at the game that acts as the real player motivator.
Halo 3 had the best ranking system. 343 needs to implement it and build up on that.
agreed the game needs to take more skill like it used to.
There needs to be a balance. There shouldn’t be a skill gap so large that a new player can ‘never’ beat an experienced player, but skill should still be rewarded most of the time. There are many multiplayer games out there that have skill gaps so large that it attracts no new players.
> Halo 3 had the best ranking system. 343 needs to implement it and build up on that.
This with a mix of Reach’s for unlocking stuff.

As long as you dont have to win to level up since it was down to pure luck in team games of getting a good team which doesnt happen often at lower skill levels in 1-50. Although victory should have a huge xp boost and skill level boost with the losers getting no xp for playing but still getting rewarded for trying bey getting kills etc. which shiws whi did the most for the team.

Winning should be that makes your rank go up.

This is unfair to people getting put with a bad team andplaying well and not getting rewarded for it. Some people will leave if they get a bad team which causes a huge problem. People should be rewarded for playing well not just winning.

RANKED: Winning levels your ranked skill up. (Play with a friend/team)
SOCIAL: Participating levels your progressive level up.
Is that so bad?

This. Keep it simple please.
Your CSR has to be determined by victory/defeat. It’s the only way it works effectively. Should it be determined by individual player performance, the necessity to work as a team is effectively removed. Objective games will be dominated by people who only try to maximize their K/D ratio.
That being said, you should lose less CSR based on your score in the game or if a member of your team quits. You should also gain more CSR if your team wins with a handicap.
To suggest that CSR be determined based on your individual performance is foolish. Player performance should affect it somewhat, but absolutely can’t be the deciding factor.
> So in other-words you want 1-50 back. Sure that should return, but the xp system should return as well. If anything the game just needs to match players of equal skill better, which is what CSR was an attempt at.
It’s not just about the 1-50 ranking system, it’s about games being made that are too easy to master, instead of being challenging but allowing new players to get better at it.
Halo 4 wasn’t very difficult to master in the slightest and anyone that’s new to the game could rake in the kills without much effort. In Halo 2/Halo 3, this wasn’t the case. New players got pwned when they stepped into the arena and they had to get better at the game in order to compete.
This is what it should be like. Halo has always been a skill based competitive type of game but it’s been turned into an arcade social game. It needs to return to the days where it’s difficult for new players to compete.
If it isn’t, players lose their incentive to carry on playing. If it’s easy to master and there’s no skill based ranking system, then the game loses is sense of longevity. Halo 2/3 kept players coming back because it left you feeling you could always do more to get better and earn your rank.
EXP and 1-50 should both be implemented into the game, and the game should be more difficult to master, rather than being what Halo 4 is now and just a noob friendly environment.

Ill settle for this but still my well lets call it CSR should increase if I play good not whether my team does afterall isnt that the whole purepose of skill level ranking? People shouldnt be forced to play with friends to level up.

No, that’s what EXP and achievements should be for.
>
> This is how it always used to be and how it should be. If you make your numeric skill rank/CSR go up based primarly on personal performance, then it basically takes away any incentive for people to play as a team, therefore ruining the idea of team games.
>
> If you want to rank up on personal performance, there’s Rumble Pit and MLG FFA. Team ranked playlists should include ranks that go up or down mostly based on winning and losing games. Your personal performance should have an effect, but only a partial effect, and this is how it was on Halo 2/3. If you got 20+ kills in a TS game and carried your team, you went up faster.
>
> I understand peoples frustrations with having garbage team mates, but making ranks that go up mainly on how you do just encourages everyone to play for themselves, be greedy and not care about the team, where as skill ranks based on winning and losing forces you to communicate with your team and look out for you team mates, take one for the team etc.
>
> I also personally think that party chat should be banned on ranked team games because I’m sick of the lack of tactical communication these days. The Halo community used to be fantastic, now it’s dead and the main reasons are the lack of skill based ranks and party chat.
