Details of Units and Bases

In my opinion, the details in units and bases are one aspect that sets it apart from other real-time strategy games. For example, after finishing a research for a certain unit you can see that particular research added to the unit (Soldiers add a unit with New Blood, Scorpions change drastically with Grizzly research, Hornets turn into Hawks, etc); on the other hand, as you begin a certain research or produce a new unit you can see that there is something going on in the buildings (the vehicle depot starts to weld, barracks turn sirens on, Defense Building starts flashing lights, etc.). Also, the debris flying out of buildings and units with some flames on them after a certain reduction of HP is also satisfying to see (with troops as their HP is reduced some soldiers die). In other games, all you see is the HP bar being reduced with no debris or physical change being done to the unit/base until its HP is completely out and you see that unit blows up. Adding these details to Halo Wars 2 will make the game more interacting to the player and adds creativity to the game.

Ensemble did some good detail work on Halo Wars. They really were master RTS craftsmen. Their circumstances around the development of Halo Wars and subsequent demise are a sad story.

Great post. I totally agree. those details are really aesthetically pleasing to see and they provide the players with tons of information just by glancing over their buildings and units. It also adds realism. I also think this is one of stronger attributes that Halo Wars one did very wel and the new game designers should keep as a prominent feature in the sequel.

I also forgot to mention that the voices proportional to the unit size and the acknowledgement of air support were cool to hear. “Mac blast ready, Mac blast away”…“Pelican Ready for Transport, Pelican Inbound”…“Unleashing Hell”(from Vulture, my favorite).

That was pretty cool. Not gonna lie.

ensemble was a great studio and their other rts gamesd were great as well (age of empires fore xample) they are good and id very much preffered them to make the game instead.

the more units and factions the better.
