Can anyone explain the ranking system in fine detail or point me where to find that info?
I understand:
- There’s a 10 game placement test that ranks you individually and places you in the category you best fit.
- Bronze through Diamond are all team-based and dependent on W/L
- Onyx/Champion return to an individually ranked system
My questions:
Placement Test:
- What specifically is measured in your first 10 game placement test and how much of each? I’m sure it takes into account my k/d/a. I’m sure it takes into account who I’m playing against/with. I’m sure it takes into account the population of people who have ranked in the playlist. Does anyone know the breakdown of how it specifically does all this?
Bronze through Diamond:
- Is there any sliver of individual performance taken into consideration? Reason being: A couple times while I’ve played this game I’ve ranked up at a faster pace than a friend. We started at one point. Played in the exact same games. And I ended maybe one tier or step ahead of him than we started.
Onyx/Champion:
- Same as placement test: How does it determine the specifics of your individual rank and which position you take? Also, what does your rating number mean (1800’s = ranked #200 in that playlist)?

when you qualify even though you are the same tier you might have differences in the % required to rank up
so if you and your friend are Platinum 3 at qualification you both might have slight progress differences
you could be Platinum 3 60%
and he could be Platinum 3 20%
so a win or two would push you up to Plat 4 and your friend would be Platinum 3 80%

So say if I were a platinum 3 at x% and he were a platinum 3 at x%. If we went up to a platinum 4 at the same time would that make us the same percent?
And then say after playing every game together I went up to a platinum 5 one game ahead of him. That’s what I’m talking about. I’ve noticed that a few times.
I will be playing with my friend and we will go up one tier at the same time, but after playing x number of games together without even switching playlists, I might move up to the next tier a game faster or slower than him.
I would think this would be impossible based on how the rank was explained. My only thought is that maybe a week ago I had a connection issue and it counted that as a quit out for me and it only took effect literally, in the moment that we were playing. I wonder how long it usually takes for that stuff to take effect.
It seems to be a mystery, even searching other websites.
I have had my rank fluctuate mostly in part I get put with enemies that are odlly 2 ranks up ahead of me (which I don’t understand why?) and inevitably I get my armor plated hide handed to me and I drop further down and the only comment that most neanderthals can put together are get good, skrub or go play Destiny, CoD, or some other game etc.

Ya it’s pretty ridiculous. I’m noticing though that the placement testing is more or less about w/l as well. I performed very badly in my placement testing, and was hoping I could learn something a little about it. I did so bad some games I was like 0-18 with maybe 1 assist. My teammate went positive and carried every game, though we only won like 2 of the 10 games (obviously with me haha). However, we both ranked a Gold tier 2. I was shocked.
And ya not only does it match you up with ranks far away often, it’s often just not balanced.
