TL;DR: Desync is still happening. The game is going to fail because it’s gaining a reputation as a non-shooting-shooter.
343 said that they put in a fix for Desync, but it didn’t fix anything. And the root of the problem is NOT what they said it was. They basically blamed it on lag in your internet connection. But the HCS was on a LAN and they still had all sorts of desync issues in the tournament. Just search it on You Tube and you’ll see plenty of videos.
Honestly, if I was in that tournament, I’d be looking into filing a damn lawsuit.
I do believe this is the issue that will ultimately kill the game as more and more people become aware of it. It’s already gaining a reputation. I asked my cousin the other day if he played Halo, his response “You mean the game that doesn’t register your shots?”… well… yeah, that one.
Last night I was playing my placement matches… I came around the corner and saw a team mate hit an opponent with the sword, dead on… all it did was pop the guys shields… so I put about 5 or 6 shots in the guy with my Commando… but he still managed to kill both of us instead and run away alive. Seriously?
I’ve thrown countless grenades that seem to do absolutely NOTHING… I’ve had rockets not kill people. And who knows how many times my bullets don’t register, but I just don’t notices… I’m beginning to think it’s more often than I realize.
This makes the game an invalid shooter in my opinion as you can’t trust your shots. I don’t want to hear about lag, I have a very strong internet connection and my ping is usually in the teens. Also, it doesn’t happen this way in any other shooter that I’ve played. Just Infinite.
This should be top priority or the game will gain a horrible reputation, not that it isn’t already.
My guess: They thought they were supersmart building a system which is trying to eliminate lag and favors the shooter. What really happened: they made everything worse and I honestly believe that we won’t see a real working fix. Maybe a small bandaid, but to really deliver a almost 100% flawless system, the whole setup isn’t suitable for.
They tried, they didn’t test enough, they shipped it… now we gotta deal with it till the next iteration. Good thing: this game won’t last 10 years.
Yeah, something like that probably did go down. They should just do it the way all the other Halo games were done and then make a strong internet connection part of the minimum system requirements. Let the slow connections into social matches only and block ranked matches off for people that meet the requirements.
i tried playing ranked last night literally every firefight where i went behind a wall i got shot through it, i was so close to unistalling it and never coming back
I was looking forward to playing halo the way I remember it from halo 2/3 but this time with an actually good internet (thank you advances in internet over the last 10+ years) it feels more like the bad laggy games I used to have
On our side, we have some initial improvements that should be landing in a future update that should both improve determinism and bandwidth usage, and our test teams are constantly looking for scenarios where our determinism systems break.
They never said this update would fix everything. In fact, they said they would be adding telemetry to track data which would help them solve the issue more fully. Obviously this means they don’t have a very good handle on the problem, so why would you expect it to be resolved with this update? My guess is that you didn’t and were chomping at the bit to come on the forums and complain some more.
I have a feeling that whatever mechanic is causing the desync is deeply ingrained in the code. I’m sure they want to fix it, it’s just a matter of can they?
I wrote this before the update smart guy. They had also blamed the problem on the users internet connectivity and the lag time between the server and clients. However if you actually read my post you’d know that it was proven false bybthe HSC being a LAN and it still happening.
My guess is you read nothing but the title and were chomping at the bit to troll.
So you were complaining that the “fix” they hadn’t even released yet didn’t fix anything?
Yes, it’s a bigger problem than just users’ connections, hence the need for the telemetry.
Anyways, I’m with you. I want the game fixed yesterday. I just grow a bit weary of the same complaints and copy paste threads. Sorry for getting sassy.
I just want to know where that mid-season “update” is at? I can play games and still get things like unstable packet losses, jitters, latency, etc. If this “update” was supposed to get rid of these issues, well spoiler alert it didn’t.
I actually DID expect the update to have fixed the issue because they said that they made changes to mitigate the issue. However, and I’ll repeat myself, IT DIDN"T DO ANYTHING… IT FIXED NOTHING.
If you’re so ‘weary of the same complaints and copy paste threads’ Then why don’t you NOT read them… why don’t you, I don’t know… scroll past them.
Why not both content and desync? They have multiple teams working in different areas of the game. I don’t see why maps, weapons etc couldn’t be worked on and added as desync issues are resolved, especially as teams working on content likely aren’t working on desync…
Ok, omg… yes BOTH should be fixed and addressed. But it is MY PERSONAL OPINION that desync should be addressed first and have top priority.
Why?
Because this is a shooter game. I don’t care how pretty my spartan looks, if I shoot you and you don’t get shot then this game fails at the one thing it is supposed to be; a shooter.
A shooter that doesn’t register shots is trash and will be placed in the appropriate bin eventually.
Well, sorry you got your hopes up. I stopped trusting anything 343 says with the launch of MCC. They’ve reached “I’ll believe it when i see it” status on my trust meter.
I suppose the only thing we can hope for now is that 343 is able to gather the data they need to find the root cause and fix it soon.
