Destructible environments?

I heard a rumor recently about destructible environments being included in Halo 4. While of course this is just a rumor, I was wondering… Would adding this actually make the game better? I thought it would be interesting, so long as they didn’t overdo it. We don’t want a single rocket demolishing an entire building… But then again, it’s a big change.

It is, quite a big change, but if it is, it would be a waste if it can’t be implemented in Forge

It’s in my OXM, and I quote,

“There will be destructible elements in Halo 4, but don’t look for a game mechanic that relies on it heavily. This is a Halo game at heart.” -Frank O’Connor

It could be cool if certain maps have a crack in the wall, and shooting a rocket at it opens a new shortcut. BUT you need the rocket to access it.

True, but hopefully not as you’re building.

Depends on how destructible the environment is. If we’re talking Battlefield or Red Faction levels of destruction, then God no.

However, if certain pieces of the environment were destructible, it could work.

Look at my above post.

I know, I saw that back when that issue was released. Just posting my thoughts on the matter.

Thank you, nonetheless.

I had a little discussion about this. clicky(don’t comment on that thread I just wanted to guage peoples reactions on the idea and now I’m done with it :p)

I really don’t think that full on destrutibility like in BF3 would be such a hot idea for Halo.

I’d enjoy having an aspect like, shooting a Spartan Laser at a tree, then that tree will fall, and block of the road to vehicles, and only accesible by foot. It would make for an interesting achievement like, ‘Tree Hugger: Have the tree in “Such and Such” fall on your vehicle and kill you.’ but some aspects to change up the strategy in the game.

I would like i to a certain extent (mostly campaign)- with the ability to turn it on or off in Forge. Loads of awesome maps would be bound to appear.

Yeah thats what I was thinking. Maybe while placing an object you could set it to “destructible” or “non-destructible”.

The sheer ability to change the flow would be interesting, the secret gap that can just barely fit a Scorpion through, can be made accesible, then, the main road can be blocked with a toppled tree, just that kind of thing that isn’t nuking the hell out of the map.

Frankie’s comment says to me that we’ll get the occasional destructible accessory, but it won’t be an integral part of gameplay like Red Faction.

Pity, because if Halo doesn’t get it’s thumb out of it’s bum it’s going to suffer the same ignominious fate as Unreal and Quake.

It would be a nice addition to puzzle maps.

I lol inside at how terrible of a comment this is. I can’t even start to think of how adding tons of detructible environments in Halo would help the game get pushed in a new(good) direction. Something inside me tells me to have faith that 343 will offer a fresh experience while keeping the core gameplay that is Halo intact.

I don’t want destructible environments in Halo 4. Because that’s just not Halo for me. I also don’t want the bullets go through things that is not glass.

I’m with you on the bullets… But im mainly thinking of explosions.
