One of the things I’ve wanted in this game for a while is destructible environments in maps. A good example of this is Rainbow Six Siege. On all of the maps, tons of things can be destroyed. Some examples being:
-Shelves
-Papers
-Paintings
-Plates
-Plant pots
-Tables
-Windows
Personally, I think this would bring map emersion to another level and do lots of good for minigames. There could be different types of destructible props (more than just pallets and boards), like the ones I mentioned, in the Props>Destructible menu. Indestructible windows would still remain, but there would be destructible ones in the props menu. What are your thoughts on this?

It would be cool to have some destructible props in Halo 5. If it could be Siege level that would be badass, but that will never happen.

Notice the measures taken in level design for Rainbow Six: Siege? Everything takes place in enclosed, controlled environments - and the game engine (AnvilNext) is designed to handle that kind of visual and dynamic sandbox setup. Halo’s game engine limitations won’t allow that kind of stuff, its orientated for the iconic vista in the sky/background, distant rendering, shared resolution and higher level details (tricks at a distance) that we recognize. There’s only so many polygons that you can fit into a level/geometry before it becomes cluttered, and so many ways to animate things before it becomes clumsy or rather, inhibits its destructible/moving features.
Destructible set pieces sounds cool, and I’m all down for it (Technical animation isn’t though?), but it really doesn’t matter (or maybe it’ll effect the flow of level design: ex. breakable windows). It’s unnecessary and has no lasting impact on the experience within the Halo environment.
That would be great to be able to spartan charge props or even destroy props by shooting them. They could add more in Forge hopefully in the next update.
I don’t think Halo is a game that’d lend itself to destructible environments all that well, at least on the levels some games do it.
I’d like more interactive elements that involve destruction on the maps though. Stuff like the red barrels you can destroy on Eden to raise and lower machines for a short period of time and the various walls and ceilings you can destroy with Spartan Charge or Ground Pound in Warzone and Campaign would also be welcome.
Something one of the older Halo games had, I think Reach, was that Jersey barriers and a few other smaller pieces of cover could break apart slightly and reduce the amount of cover they’d offer. I think more items like this would be good in future Halo games, and also increase the amount of area that can be destroyed. Imagine a map like Noctus, one with many concrete barriers due to it being on an urban highway environment, with all of the street barriers and jersey barriers that dot the map and prevent vehicles from accessing certain areas suddenly being flatten and now allowing vehicles to enter those areas without as much trouble.
Or imagine Foundry’s wall with the wired fencing suddenly being destroyed and creating a new path for the players to utilize. Hell, maybe even have areas that do the opposite effect and a wall or something can be destroyed to block a route for the rest of the game.

There are some of these on the Firefight version of Urban.

Yeah but they aren’t much, I’m talking the base of the barrier being all that’s left
BTB/Warzone? Yes, definitely. Maybe not full on building destruction-does not suit halo imo-, but perhaps concrete walls or rock forms used as cover can be chipped down over the course of the match. Adding a little dynamic element to each game.
I wouldn’t go so far as to be able to shoot through walls as this would make all the Halo veterans upset cuz it’s “changing the Halo we know and love into CoD.”
In Halo 4 we had this destroyable bridges on the Infinity, while a cool idea,it doesnt gave the gameplay any improvment.
I think Halo should have a few destroyable objects, but not in a scale as Rainbow Six Siege has them.
