destiny

I figured the best place to talk about this would be general discussion. Just lock if it isn’t. So recently, bungie announced its taken king dlc for destiny. Which seems all normal, until I read that they confirmed there were preorder bonus’s. So if you preorder the dlc, you get exclusive dlc. And I said to myself, wtf is wrong with our gaming industry. We live in a world where devs and publishers can get away with dlc inside of a dlc. God this just pissed me off, I hope no one preorders this and tells Activision and bungie where to stick there preorder bullcrap. I mean for Christ sake, dlc inside of dlc.

What do you guys think of this?

I’ve been sort of following the growing discontent over the way Bungie/Activision is handling DLC, and I have to say that I’m really glad I never climbed on board the Destiny bandwagon. Guardians gives you all future maps at no charge while Bungie wants you to adopt a pay-to-play model for their story-less grind? I mean, I’m not really an MMO guy, but it seems to me that if that’s what they wanted Destiny to be then they should have at least said so from the start.

It definitely wasn’t what we were promised. Microsoft gives us free maps…and Activision charges 20 bucks for 3 new maps and a strike. The thing that stops me from even going near destiny anymore is its business practices. I can’t believe that bungie would go with Activision, they knew what they were going into when they signed that deal, and look where it got them.

I played a lot of Destiny and I enjoyed it all, though I think that enjoyment came more from the friends I made playing it than story telling or content.

I agree with this. The first time I pkayed through it, I played with my friend the whole way. I knew it was getting repetitive, but it was fun with a friend. But once we played through it once , there was no reason to come back

The real irony is that the whole point behind Bungie ditching Microsoft was so they wouldn’t be a slave to the man. Looks like they just traded one corporate overlord for another. Way to go, Bungie.

I actually saw the dlc on sale and was like, “hmmm, I’ll see if Bungie at least improved their game from the famous dlc”…

Nope.

I remember when I sunk almost a 100 hours in Destiny. Got tired of the repetitive boring story quest, the MM that was nothing but fusion rifles and shotguns. And went back to Halo 4 and was seeing it in new light and was amazed again by it.

The amazing story that captured my attention. A amazingly fun and epic Multiplayer and Spartan Ops missions that put Destiny’s story missions to shame in the size and content. I knew 343I was going in a far better direction then the dark road Bungie found itself in.

Yeah no thats not why they left microsoft but like you’re speculations.

Bungie have at least stated that Taken king is a major expansion in terms of content and fixing the game generally, and why would you now be shocked by the marketing of the game when its been doing this kinda stuff since the start?

I’m not sure who this is directed at, but I believe its me. I don’t care how big their dlc is, they’re still giving away dlc inside the dlc, that’s the lowest of the low. Imagine if 343 said “pre order this map pack and get a new gun”. And you’re like " wtf why would I preorder dlc"

Not sure if you guys have seen this video about Destiny, but it’s frakin hysterical.

Video linky link.

I am looking forward to the Taken King because it might have a story and will add a lot and the only reason I have the other 2 dlc’s is because my little brother had my mom buy them. Something I noticed is that despite the unholy rage people aren’t protesting destiny at all anymore we just accepted it after a while and despite games like Evolve which have died out because of its dlc, games are having more paid dlc to add on. I honestly think we will go through the same (explicit) all over again except with a little more work in Destiny 2’s vanilla game. If that’s the case i will not buy it. Also does anyone else think that Bungie is just a shadow of it’s former self.

Everything about Bungie annoys me to be honest. They sold out to Activision which, in my opinion, is a worse company than EA will ever be. They care about nothing except for money, and something tells me Taken King will be just as bad as the original game, for an extra $40! Don’t even get me started on them charging $20 for some shaders and emotes. I thought Evolve had bad dlc practices, jeez!

Frankly, I’m glad Bungie left Halo. I don’t want them touching this series again. We would be charged $60 in map packs, $20 in weapon skins…and they would still add the micro transactions. Overall 343 is a much better, less evil company.

I agree, at least ea makes good games like mass effect. Activation destroys everything it touches, its a shame bungie was one its victims. And yeah the dlc thing has gotten way out of hand
