As per title - I feel the problem people generally have with sprint is not so much getting to the target faster but running away when out of position and losing (the common, I should have killed that guy moment as they run away), here I list why i think this would be a good idea ( I’m not an expert people so be nice)…
- If you get completly taken out of sprint when RUNNING ON THE GROUND then you are forced to deal with your opponents and mostly die when you should, because you put yourself into a bad spot (this reduces your speed to normal movement but does not stop you dead) -This would ease most people’s anger when in those situations where enemies run away and reward the shooter by forcing the gun battle. This idea is heavily reinforced with the 2second wait before you can begin sprint again.
Another consequence of the 2second delay is that once you shoot an enemy you will be temporarily limiting their map movement (as some of the jumps on these maps require initial speed from sprint and not just thruster).
-
However, if you are shot while JUMPING IN THE AIR you shouldn’t get slowed down (this would still allow people to start the sprint and make all the jumps that are built into the map, as well as allow the ground-pound to continue). The spartan charge and slide would be nerfed by this obviously, but I’ve never seen anyone use the slide in a useful way on the maps currently available and the charge would be more situational is all ( and more rewarding when successfully used).

The sword should be unique in that you would suffer no desprint as above.
I don’t really understand why you shouldn’t get penalized more for running away ONCE THE BATTLE HAS BEGUN, so with the above hopefully the gun battles will be more fun and speed up the game by reducing the chance of someone running away simply because they are losing. Sprint feels like it should be movement utility, not a get out of jail free card.
Examples where sprinting is “morally acceptable” i list below, which are aided by the above:
- You know your teammates are across map and no one is around to shoot you, so you sprint to catch them up- You decide at a critical moment that you want to rush toward a flank on the enemy team (risky move now seeings as if you are caught, you can’t turn around anywhere near as easily because of the desprint and delay if shot even once).- You are chasing someone who has just run under a base and is low shields and crouching (they deserve to be rushed because they cornered themselves), the idea being that the chaser should be allowed to run, the chasee should be punished due to the delay for sprint when shot by you or your team.
Hopefully this is enough to convince most people that sprint should stay, but needs to change in some way.
