So i plan on digging into forge when it releases next month, but im generally not super amazing at map design and would like to ask for any tips etc
how do you forgers design your maps? could you share any rough designs to help give some insight to forge newbies?
Just mess around really, you learn from experience. I’m not an amazing forger but when I started in halo 4 I was much worse then I am now.
Essentially there are some basics to making a map (for normal competitive play)
- Avoid shield doors (and most other gimmick things)
- Don’t overcrowd the map with power weapons.
- Don’t ever have low ceilings so you cant jump.
- In most places the player should have around three routes they can take. Areas should be accessible in multiple ways the majority of the time. ( Exposed locations / bottlenecks for power weapons are an exception)
Playtest loads, tweak loads and never feel like it’s perfected yet.
i would put MCC in and play around on h2as forge but i lent it my brother
Three-lane design tends to be a strong method for map design. That doesn’t mean the map has to be literally three lanes like an 8. Basically have three main lanes from getting across the side.
