Design Combination in Infinite

I am one of the few who likes the design of Halo under 343 Industries (for more of these controversial opinions, please check out my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfKrdgN4u5IncJCfQMe4mVA?), with the science fiction influence, more threatening-looking enemies, and a futuristic U.N.S.C. military.
Unfortunately, the majority of those who are thorough Halo fanatics disike this. So that was why the way Halo Wars 2 looked was great in my eyes. It took my beloved, sci-fi 343i design of the Halo games and had it blended with that of Bungie’s original. (For once) the Halo community was united over something!

Though this created a few continuity errors, it worked well. So I thought, what if the same thing were to happen in Halo Infinite? ‘Classic’ designs seem to be appearing in Infinite based of new models shown in the Slipspace engine demo, which pleased a lot of people. But when it comes to our new artistic style, I don’t want it to go completely. Here are my reasons why:

  • It would help display that, despite poor reception, 343i is not afraid to still use what was in their past games (which I personally liked). - Both sides of Halo’s community (based upon each one’s respective favourite art style) could agree on Infinite’s aesthetics. - The continuity throughout the Reclaimer Saga would be retained. - It may encourage more to play Halo Wars 2.I do hope that Halo Infinite can learn from Halo Wars 2, and please don’t start a comment war based on my opinion, please take it with a pinch of salt! I hope the guys at 343i read this!

If we’re going by the trailer it looks to have both. This is what it looked like to me:
Chief - classic
Marines - mixture
Warthog - modern
Beam emitter (I don’t know wtf they’re called, the Forunner structure) - modern

I believe Sparth also said it’s going to be a mixture of all the art styles.

Nothing beats the classic look IMO

I had enjoyed it too. 343i did some cool design for the maps.
The only few things I’d like changes are in some enemies, forerunner stuffs and weapon designs.

  • The prometheans are innovative, but confusing design. In terms of aestethics, they doesn’t look pleasant to my eyes. These floating pieces and teletransportation stuff look bad for me. I learned about graphics design, they need to be coesive and well impressive.
  • Some weapons designs from Halo 4 and 5 looks boring (in specially on 4, they looked so worse), except for the special REQ ones. I liked Halo 2 BR design instead of new one. They doesn’t look to be so ofensive. It’s like I’m shooting rice food. The weapons should be look more realistc, and little “deadly” to feel I’m really killing the enemy (and this affects in gameplay too).
I think the only game in the series I felt more immersive in combat was Halo: CE.
  • In despite of cool tech designs, the game is about Giant Rings Worlds. There’s should be balanced design between acient stuffs, fauna, flora and technology (ships, forerruner, military UNSC and Covenant designs). When the forerunners arc started, they had immersed more in metal and terrain designs.

I’m not telling their chose it’s actually very bad, but “okay”. I find it more generic for a thousand of FPS shooters existing out there.
I think 343i will do well with their personalizated Slipspace Engine and for their new upcoming Xbox consoles (Xbox Infinite and Infinite Value).
And yes, I need to agree there’s some fans here are being very dramatic in this forum. I will pre-order the game anyways.

I just drew this in reply to another thread, but I think it’s somewhat relevant… Maybe a little.
The one thing Halo Wars 2 definitely did not get right was its Forerunner design. It looks nothing like what we got in the Halo trilogy (classic) in which we first saw Forerunner designs, and in particular, the architecture of the Ark. I really don’t like the new Forerunner building designs, 343i’s rounded Sentinels and (although not in HW2) the Prometheans. My image is to demonstrate how Forerunner design should be replicated.

I’ve never accepted the argument for wanting to retain graphical continuity of Halo 4 + 5.

343 completely ripped away any continuity from Halo 3 when they made Halo 4. I understand they were attempting to identify themselves, but that still leaves a really bitter taste in my mouth. The canon nonsense is an overrated excuse for it.

However, I’m very very happy with how Halo Infinite looks in this new art style. Nailed the classic/modern feel perfectly

I like the look of Infinite but the Forerunner towers look too 343 style. Much more jagged and busy and the beam itself seams more violent. I felt it should be more like Halo CE and Valhalla when the tower fires. More subtle and less like a missile. If that makes sense.

And Halo Wars 2 had a similar issue with jagged requiem style forerunner structures on the Ark. I liked the simpler more mysterious castle like simplicity of the bungie versions.

Halo Wars 2 did a good job of combining the art styles for the UNCS and Covenant/Banished, but I just prefer the classic Forerunner style too much. The level ‘The Ark’ from Halo 3 is peak classic Forerunner, whereas ‘The Breaking’ in Halo 5 exemplifies the reasons I dislike the new Forerunner style. For multiplayer examples, ‘Coliseum’ in Halo 5, and ‘Epitaph’ from Halo 3.

Halo Wars was one of those funny genres that while it occasionally captures the look of Halo with familiar sounds and colors, it often separates itself from Halo as well. I often watch AI Battles on some mod channels like gamercheat13 and Sod and you can see the difference in how Halo Wars acts from taking the same units and pitching them against each other. That being said Halo Wars 2 in some ways was an improvement over Halo Wars 1 it was also very much a product of that terrible time period of the lootboxcraze (the same that birthed H5). As for the design I get it that you are young and that this is the design you grew up with much like how those that grew up with the prequels don’t mind the clone wars aspect of Star Wars, but the aesthetics from 343 games don’t hold up when compared to the older games from Bungie.
So making Halo Infinite closer to Halo Wars 2 is not the way to go. You might like the design of those games but in numerous polls the other design is more popular.

You’re not alone in this. In fact, these are all things I’ve said myself on dozens of occasions. It’s good to see that not everyone in this fanbase is hyper-polarized.

I agree with you.
Much of the UNSC art style makes sense in 4/5 considering that the Covenant war is over and now that humanity isn’t strapped for resources (as bad as during the war), technological innovation is going to jump leaps and bounds. With the Created now waging war, which seems like the direction there going in, the UNSC will have to use older equipment and weapons. This makes sense lore wise, and wouldn’t require a complete 180 in art style.
The Infinite teaser gives me hope that they wont completely throw away the new art style.
I love the Spartan IV’s Gen 2 armor (venator being my favorite) and UNSC ship and vehicle design.
The Prometheans are really interesting and the more organic looking Covenant weapons are cool.
The only thing i really don’t like are the marines, which if the teaser is to believed, has been fixed.
Give me H2A /HW2 style Elites and it would be perfect.
I really prefer the Gen 2 Chief armor but him getting more “classic looking” armor is totally justifiable lore whise.
I think both art styles can coexist (with a lore reason to).
The Reach armors and classic weapons in Halo 5 look great and don’t really clash with the 343 art style which proves (to me at least), that 343 doesn’t have to choose one or the other.
Infinite could have both styles and keep a lore explanation as to why.

While I’ve not been a fan of most of 343’s designs, I’m going to miss the halo 4/5 chief and blue team look. That was an reimagining that worked in my eyes.

It captures the heavier halo CE/reach look to the armor, while making it something a human being could properly move in. Halo 2/3 chief feels like someone took storm trooper armor, painted it green, and threw MC’s helmet on it.

Bungies art style was very military inspired and even the convenant designs looked grounded in realism. Halo 4 and 5 look childish and plasticky and don’t look like something that could actually exist and be used and taken seriously.

youre unfortunately one of very few few who prefer the new art style.

Cortana will probably redesign the Prometheans for her Created forces but i doubt they’ll look like Builder sentinels. The Forerunner classes had different aesthetics.

Halo Wars 2 does a nice job of blending the styles.
