In my opinion, it’s made to help noobs. On the surface, this game seems like it’s the most skill-based Halo ever made because of how hard 343 is pushing it to be an eSport. However, there are a few things that, in my opinion, severely compress the skill gap of Halo:
Spartan Charge- an aim-assisted melee lunge that leaves the enemy absolute with half health. You are able to instantly perform this attack, even when rounding corners. - Sprinting- sprinting by itself doesnt cater to noobs, but the issue is that it becomes broken when paired with CQ power weapons (sword and shotgun). In previous Halo games, power weapons were only powerful in skilled hands. You had to work much harder to stay in the effective range of the power weapon. If you just charged head on at someone with a sword like a noob, all a decent player had to do was back up and shoot straight. In Halo 5, you run faster than everyone when carrying the sword, so its near impossible to counter you. This is worsened by the fact that you can now aim the sword for further range and get a one-hit kill with a spartan charge. - Both of the above issues are made even worse with the garbage radar. The radar in this game is extremely short. This makes predicting players movements (it is a skill, stop lying to yourselves) almost impossible. When a player is sprinting, they appear as a mere blip on the radar a half second before they make contact. - High Bullet Magnetism- there has always been some degree of bullet magnetism in Halo, but Halo 5’s is absurdly high. I’ve personally watched (not in theater mode) countless shots that i should have missed, essentially curving onto a players head. This gives bad players the ability to compete with players that would normally out BR (or pistol) them in any other game. - Mini-Nuke grenades- In Halo 3 (and somewhat 2) grenade kills to a good degree of skill. Frags and Plasmas had much smaller blast radius’ and didnt bounce nonstop like freaking rubber balls. In Halo 5 gunfights, i will back away from the player when i know he is backing down to chuck a nade. I watch as nades land what looks like a yard ahead of me, and see them bounce a good 4 to 5 times before finally killing me even though there still so far away from me. Grenades in H5 are just about throwing in the general direction instead of precise bouncing.Sorry I know its llong, but I had to get it off my chest. I want to like Halo 5. I really do, and I’m trying to keep an open mind to the change. However, growing up on H2-3 made me want a pure, skill-based shooter with no noob-helping tools. In my opinion, H5 is just not that game right now.
EDIT: Thanks everyone for your input and opinions. I didnt expect this to blow up like it did. For those of you that 100% disagree with me and love the game, im really happy for you. I hope it gives you the same memories and thrills that Halo 3 gave me. Thanks to everyone that was civil and kind with their disagreement. For those that felt the need to turn hostile and toxic over someone disliking your favorite vidya gaem…seek help.

Before I even hear grenades land I try and thrust away. If my shields are even halfway down the splash damage still gets me. Also, what is the point of adding escaping abilities like thrust if grenade damage and blast radius are going to be turned up to cancel it out?
bullet magnetism, aim assist - the obvious lie of “dedicated servers” cause i am frequently experiencing a miniscule amount of lag or enemies skipping around - same design of every single map, a lot of remixes (we need brand new maps) - zero social gamemodes But other than that, i enjoy it, the game runs great, just feels unfinished

Where in the world did you read that, because I know I didn’t type it? If you putting words in my mouth makes me lose credibility…well then idk what to tell you. What I said was that in previous Halo’s sword and shotgun were only powerful in skilled hands because you had to find ways to keep them in their appropriate ranges. In Halo 5 you can just sprint until you find someone. I said that using CQ power weapons Halo 5 takes much less skill, and I think its obvious.

Yeah bullet magnetism is ruining the whole experience for me.
I reccomend putting your console on energy-saver mode. It worked for me.
The maps in H5 are the worst in any Halo game thus far imo.
This is truly embarrasing. 3 months after launch and we still dont even have social slayer.

While we have had discussions about the other issues and agree to disagree, this i agree on completely. It should be higher, ive been saying that since the beta.

I cant exactly put my finger on whats causing it though. Its almost like the entire weapon sandbox has been made more powerful.

I think its the fire rate having been buffed on almost everything but i have no way to prove it.

Thats seems like a good guess to me. Its probably made worse by the cough bullet magnetism cough

Speaking of bullet magnetism have you seen it on th h2 br? Good lord 343 it doesnt have to be EXACTLY like the h2 br…yeesh.

Lol thats what I’m talking about. I literally felt ashamed of myself the other night because of how many free kills 343 gave me. I got a headshot while less than half of my reticle was on the guy…

Fire rate has in fact been sped up, I don’t know why 343 is trying to lower the TTK, but its pretty annoying and one of the many reasons I deleted H5.

It’s a paraphrase of what you said and implied. You can’t just sprint around with a sword and get kills. Halo 5 takes the same amount of skill to use the sword than it did in other Halos. Its not super skillful to aim the giant reticule on the enemy and wait for it to turn red. However, it is skillful to evade being killed while using the sword or any CQ’s weapon. You immediately limit yourself to one range, while a player who just spawned in has an AR to spray in close proximity effectively and a magnum to hit 6 headshots effectively from close to mid range. Anyone wielding a sword is an easy target. If your aim is good it shouldn’t be an issue.

No I didnt. Just stop. Stop reading into things and looking for arguments.
I think you’re objectively wrong about it taking the same amount of skill to use sword. Not gonna repeat myself a third time. Nothing more to be said really. Thanks for your input though.
