Deranked out of onyx?

This a thing now? I thought once you obtained a rank tier, you stayed there. With the exception of Champion, of course. Did they change this or did I just hit a bug?

It’s worth mentioning that I have been playing absolutely garbage all night but if you check my game history, you’ll see I have a few DNF’s. For some reason it’s only showing 2 of them but there was a 3rd lag out at one point. My ISP was going up and down all frigging night. Anyways yeah, I get that a lag out counts as a loss (possibly the most infuriating thing ever, especially when you are winning by an absolute landslide), so counting those, I had like 5 consecutive losses (thank you Halo 5 smurfs for ruining this game btw), landing me in diamond 6… started the night at like diamond 1600 and ended in diamond 6. What is going on here?

I’ve lost plenty of games at onyx 1500 in the past and never deranked so I’m just confused as to why this happened.

Yeah this is a new thing. Should have been there from day 1 tbh.

Yeah, you can derank out of Onyx. Sadly, I’m not good enough to solo to that high of a rank in Team Slayer anyway. Diamond 1 will have to do.

Found this out the other night. There is no more “level” lock (gold, platinum, diamond, etc)

Yeah I missed this too, and I play most days. Apparently it was on a message of the day a few weeks back. Don’t know why they’ve changed it now, but it is a bit annoying tbh. I liked being able to relax a bit once I got into Onyx, it took the pressure off after the grind to get there.

Yeah strange that they kind of snuck that in. Not entirely sure if I dig the change but it’s whatever. Mostly I was just puzzled because I thought I understood the ranking system lol

I understand the reasoning for the change on some level but I like the idea of remaining in a rank tier once you achieve it. Going onyx in Team Arena solo is an absolute pain because inevitably, you’re going to find yourself in a ton of matches where you either have bad teammates, guys who don’t care about the objective, you’re facing a bunch of smurfs who should realistically be playing high onyx or champ players, you end up lagging out, a teammate lags out or quits in an objective game… etc etc etc. And often times you drop much more csr when you lose than csr you gain for a win.

But that said, it does seem like they made it so that in order for you to drop a rank tier, you need to drop a bunch of games consecutively. That the system needs to feel like “This guy clearly has no business being in onyx, let’s drop him down”. Idk if that’s entirely true or not but like I said, I’ve dropped games recently while at onyx 1500 and not been deranked so it does seem plausible.

Yeah it’s a thing now. It would be great idea if matchmaking put you with equal level players, but deranking because you got matched against players 2 ranks up (Gold vs diamond for example) stinks. Is that a fair assessment of either the Gold or Diamond player? I think with matchmaking seeming to loosen up lately we need a ranking floor.
