So, I’m a really big fan of the customization options in Reach. They don’t affect game play at all, but I like being able to design my own Spartan.
With Halo 4, we know that the Armory style from Reach is staying, and we know that we can customize our own Load Outs for combat (hello DMR + Combat Shotgun… lol).
How will 343 deepen that customization option from Reach?
Will there twice or 3x the Armor options?
Will the screaming 12 year-olds finally be able to get the GRD helmet?
Will there be a way to tweak your Spartans base abilities (Remember in TFoR, Linda was faster than all of the other Spartans, another was stronger than the others, another was much more intelligent, etc.) slightly?
How deep do we think that 343 is going to go into customization?
> save something for halo 5, we cant have it all in halo 4.
lol
I guess to put it in another light, I am almost as much of a fan of The Elder Scrolls games as I am with my Halo, almost. For me, there can never be enough customization…
I guess I’m just spoiled by that aspect of The Elder Scrolls. I don’t actually expect that level of custom stuff in any Halo game, but it would be damn sweet!
> Will the screaming 12 year-olds finally be able to get the GRD helmet?
I FIND THAT OFFENSIVE!
I kid ofcourse, but I would imagine they’d include that Helmet for the hell of it seeing as it never saw the light of day in Reach… -(Powerful Rage Ensued)-
But I’d imagine they’d add in a couple of other areas to Customize, no real idea what, but maybe they’d allow us to Customize both Wrists and a Utility on each Leg for a start…
And as a Customization nut myself, I bloody hope they end up keeping pretty much every single Armour Permutation we’ve had thus far… -(“Pretty much all” meaning everything except that god awful Security Shoulder with that bloody knife)-
…and I hope they add a whole hell load of new stuff and old stuff that never actually made it in, the Spartan Mk IV Armour from Halo Wars for example, honestly think that is the best of the Original Spartan Armour Designs…
I hope the Armory goes deeper than it did before.
Really liked it, and there definately is potential…but also a lot of wasted potential.
Here’s what I hope will be added:
Backpacks.
Would have fit Reach more, seeing as Jorge had one. But still. Throughout Halo games we see a lot of different ones, from Jorge’s backpack to the one Johnson carries around. Would definately spice up some designs.
Boots.
Not tons of options, but I would love to see some more variation in boots.
Seems nitpicky, but having a few options would mean Spartans will be customizable from top to bottom.
More visor colors:
Copper (Jorge)
Mirror (Emile)
Orange (more in line with H2’s Chief)
More voices.
Patterns.
Simple pattern skins for the armor. Kind of like a set of stamps you can place on each single armor piece. That way we could remake Dutch’s helmet from ODST for instance, or give our armor a simple custom striping etc.
Attachements.
Basically make each armor piece as basic as possible, and then add a secondary list of attachments. Think of ammo belts, knifes, grenades, “cameras”, flashlights, etc.
This would allow us to customize our Spartans on a deeper level. No longer would everything be fixed to a specific place, but I could have an ammo belt on any chest piece I’d like for instance. Or have an optical enhancement which in Reach would only come on helmets, but place it on shoulders (which many older MJOLNIR armors seem to have).
I’m sure there will be more armor in H4 than in Reach. At first, everyone thought Reach’s customization was going to be extremely in depth, but looking back, it really wasn’t. Yes, there is a lot of armor to choose from, but there really isn’t all that much. I would expect 343 to expand.
On another note related to the OP, I seriously hope that the Shotgun isn’t going to be allowed in a custom loadout. I consider that to be a power weapon (since it’s a 1 shot kill in close quarters) and don’t want to see 8 people running around with it.

Yeah… I doubt that the Combat Shotgun will make it into Custom Load Outs simply for that purpose, but a guy can dream. lol

I agree with everything, except for the visor colors. It’s should work like the way you change your spartan’s armor color.

I agree with this. Give us an RGB color palate for our visors. And frankly, they could even increase the depth of the color palate as well. Having 24 variations isn’t bad, but the potential for more is definitely there. coughlikeatrueblackcough

My main “problem” with that, is that not every color is suitable for a visor. Unless done properly you’d get candy colored visors that just look off and cheap. People wearing fluorescant pink visors for instance.
Generally metallic type colors work best and look best. So a wider range of such colors would be a better option in my eyes.

I’ll have to amend my statement and agree with this. The metallic look is very imprtant to the Mjolnir Powered Armor series, s I agree that only colors that fit that metallic look would really apply.
how about for every armour ability (and armour piece) you can choose the colour from a colour wheel and edit the shade also why not have tne neck as an option (neck guard camo cloak etc.)

I don’t think slight changes are a good idea, if there is anything different from you and the other players it should be pronounced and obvious. If the difference is small you get tons of random variables, which destroy balance, like CoD where the outcome of each situation could be different if one person just happened to have a different perk.
