OK, so I was playing team arena today, and I was ranked plat 1. But after my team lost, THE GAME -Yoinking!- DEMOTED ME TO GOLD 6. This isn’t supposed to happen, right?
“Losing games will cause your progress within a rank to decrease, but you will never drop down a whole rank from losing. For example, if you spend all month working your way into Silver, losing won’t drop you back to Bronze.” -This was quoted from the official “Enter the Arena” article.
This really pissed me off, because I spent so much time and effort trying to solo grind my way up from gold to get into plat, and now I’m demoted back, which according to the 343 isn’t supposed to happen. The proof is in my game history, btw. Did they change this in the ranking system or something?
EDIT: Apparently this is what was meant when the Fall Season Message of the Day said “players may fall between ranks.” At first I thought it meant something else, but yeah now that I know what it does mean, I’m not exactly sure how I personally feel about it. At least I now know this was supposed to happen.
Had that happen to a friend of mine yesterday. He got Onyx and after losing the next game he went back to Diamond 6. I also saw another thread recently on the same topic.

Any official statement somewhere on that? I don´t recognize reading that anywhere but it would obviously be in line with what OP and others have stated. On the other hand I would´ve expected more noise on waypoint regarding this if that was the case?

I haven’t seen anything, but only heard from other people on these forums.

Got to go with that. Most people would not be happy with that change.
According to the “Enter the Arena” article detailing on the ranking system, this isn’t supposed to happen. Theoretically speaking, the lowest amount of accumulated csr you can have in a ranked playlist is none because you either haven’t played after getting ranked that way, or have lost enough games to lose that much csr (my case). But it also says that a player can’t get demoted a whole rank. The lowest a player can be in any rank is at rank level 1 and with zero csr (the case is different for champ and onyx obviously but I’m not ranked that high so it doesn’t matter).
If 343 did change this, then they should have made an official announcement about it. They shouldn’t just make a change like this and expect people to just take it. And if they knew that people wouldn’t like it, then they shouldn’t change it in the first place.

It would give a better indication of how good you are. On my secondary profile (SR 32) when I play with my company I’m a diamond 2 in slayer. My main profle (SR148) I’m a gold because I only play solo on this profile.
I think it’s in the Message of the Day thing that pops up where it says that the ranking system has been revised. I remember seeing someone’s screenshot or something of it.
I thought it was also mentioned in one the community updates.
Don’t know why you would derank unless it’s some kind of glitch or maybe you played horribly and the game didn’t think you were in the right placement. Ehh, don’t know.
Pretty sure it has been a thing for awhile. At least during this Fall season. I know a few seasons in the past, you couldn’t fall out of divisions but they changed that. Not really worth being mad at 343 for considering when you win, you go up and when you lose, you go down.
I don’t play Arena anymore… well, ranked Arena, but I’d say this is a welcome change. I’ve gotten into divisions I didn’t belong in, so being stuck at say Diamond, when I’m more of a gold, sucked really hard.

^ This. I’m not sure if it was announced anywhere else (haven’t checked), but there was a message of the day update stating the for the current season divisional deranking is now possible.
