Delay Halo Infinite!

Halo Infinite should be delayed.

I’m still looking forward to where Halo Infinite takes us, but the gameplay demo was very much a hiccup from 343. Personally, I don’t think the demo would be very old. Microsoft and 343 were very aware of the state of the game… and showed this anyways. Would they really show anything but their best?

Support for delaying the game won’t actually delay the game, I’m sure. I’d love for 343 to blame COVID more for their inability to execute, but actually produce a finalized product. MCC is not even polished to this day.

Who thinks a delay would be helpful?

A little to early to tell… if come mid August and new gameplay still looks ehh then yeaa it needs a delay

I hope it will be delayed, this just looks awefull. And where is dynamisch lighting? We’re supposed to get it in a free update after launche… that’s just inacceptable, don’t ship a game if it’s not ready.

And what’s with the phantom??? It’s design is horrible but it also moves like it’s some kind of toy being moved by a kid, klunky as Hell. (Look how it takes a turn, not fluid at all).

I do have to say that the openworld idea brings back Halo combat evolved Vibes and is very pleasing.

But please Microsoft, let 343 Industries delay This game and fix the low quality graphics, lighting, shadowing and art style choices like the blocky minecraft looking Walls, plastic looking armors (especially the elites and Brutes)

If Halo: Infinite launches in November alongside the Xbox Series X launch which is very likely. Then it will have to directly compete with Cyberpunk 2077 that releases late November… And with what has been shown thus far it will get slaughtered and everyone will be playing Cyberpunk 2077 instead. A game that will look and feel next gen.

I very much doubt that delaying the game a few more months would have much of an effect given that it’s already been 5 years since Halo 5 released. Aside from that, the head of Xbox declared on stage at E3 that this will be launching alongside Series X just as CE did for the original Xbox back in 2001, and unlike then, you can update a game as much as you desire post-launch these days. I don’t think they would risk the PR hit alongside potentially flubbing another console launch and handing over to PlayStation like they did with the Xbox One scandal back in 2013, so consider me extremely skeptical that they are going to delay the launch of their flagship franchise on their new system.

You are right. I don’t think they will. Halo might need a full year delay to get to where it is better, but I guess time will tell if they can execute on the launch.

this game need at least a 1y delay

They can’t. 343 is screwed and will have to ship whatever they have come holiday 2020. You and I may want it delayed. We can live with it if it means a superior product. But you have to consider that this is Microsoft’s flagship title for the launch of their next gen platform. MS will not tolerate a delay for this game, they absolutely need it to release on schedule or else the Series X will likely underperform. But hey, I really really hope my cynical views are proven wrong.

Considering how games are supported from alpha stage all the way to final release these days. I’d happily have an early build of the game if offered.

Usually results in a much better rounded final product and they have buckets of data tests and community feedback to work with.

Yeah. They had planned flighting for Halo: Infinite. But they have backtracked on that with flighting no longer happening.

My guess is they are not confident in this game and flighting would show how bad quality this game is.

Yeah it’s probably not a great strategy for a AAA campaign title to flight due to so many players going through it straight away. I could see it working for the multiplayer portion, but even then as the title is so big you may lose fans due to early bugs and glitches. Other games use it as a platform to build a community, but Halo is already established. So yeah you’re absolutely right.

I don’t think the game will be even remotely bad quality. Especially playing on an XSX. I think it’s important they have raytracing on release though, to make sure the game looks its best. But either way the campaign trailer showed how good the game looks while playing so I think it would hold up extremely well without it still.

yeah but its reputation whenever it launches will be tarnished just like Battlefront 2s rep. Yeah it still had a community, but it was not nearly as popular as it wouldve been if it was just good on launch.

It doesn’t matter if it should be delayed. Microsoft NEEDS Halo Infinite for their Xbox Series X launch. Since they own 343i, they won’t allow it. And honestly, I understand. Every Halo game has taken three years to develop. This one has already exceeded that with five years, but Microsoft probably allowed it understanding 343i wanted to build a new engine and launch on the Series X. But now… time’s up for 343.

I thought what i saw looked promising, but definitely needs some polish. However, the game is going to be a “platform” for years to come (i’m thinking live service), so it’s probably okay if the launch isn’t flawless.

With that said, if they can’t stick to an “it’s ready when it’s ready” motto, then i plan to adopt an “i’ll buy it when it’s ready motto”. I stopped pre-ordering games years ago (except for the MCC kinda), stopped expecting early-access titles to ever finish, and now i’m going to stop funding beta-quality “releases”.

I’ll judge the game, based on reviews (user and critic) on launch day, and decide then if it’s worth the money for me. Minor graphical issues probably won’t kill the experience for me TBH, as long as the gameplay is smooth and no crashes occur. If it’s free-to-play, i’ll just download and see for myself, i guess…

Note that I’m on PC, so this game is not influencing my decision of a console purchase. I hope they put out better looking gameplay at least one week before Black Friday, so console players can decide if the XSX is worth the investment.

Regardless, it’s not going to be delayed.

Delaying the game might up the fidelity but it likely won’t save the bad art style. Delaying the game for features like Forge would be far more important.

Im just tired, hope they release the game asap and bury the franchise once and for all. Hopefully some years from now some competent studio will make a remake or something.

It’s not the same situation. Battlefront II’s problem was not only with its predatory microtransactions, but perhaps even more so the way EA responded to the criticism. The “pride and accomplishment” comment made by EA in an attempt to rationalize the design choices to the playerbase backfired spectacularly, which led to a lasting stigma that could have been largely avoided if they had acknowledged the feedback and changed the system accordingly. 343 has acknowledged the problems people had with what they saw, and have said that there is still ongoing polish between now and launch, plus further improvements coming post launch as well like ray tracing support. It is ideal? No, obviously you want the game to be as close to perfect at launch as possible. However, this isn’t just some random title like Battlefront II, it’s the next title in Microsoft’s flagship franchise that hasn’t seen a main release in 5 years and is now releasing as a launch title for their next generation hardware as a primary system seller. And as far as a community is concerned, Destiny also launched with very mixed feedback, but Bungie was able to handle it in a way where they took player concerns seriously and now their game has hundreds of thousands of concurrent players across multiple systems at any given time.

I much prefer this kind of style for halo! This is how it should look!
