> From what ive seen across MULTIPLE forums (not just waypoint) twitter, youtube etc, all the changes made (outside of the lack of coop and forge at launch and the challenge xp) are in favor for. You put too much weight into how much people actually care about the little things. A rated T rating doesnt mean anything to most people. Fracture Armor does not mean anything to most people (including Halo players). The adjustment or inclusion of non classic features does mean anything negatively to most people (side rant, every sequal needs to add new features or adjust old ones, its ridiculous not too).
You say you don’t like for me to categorize people but you sure like to throw around categorical terms like “majority” and “minority” a lot
[Halo Reach Fans Will Soon Control The Franchise - YouTube](http://Categorization of Halo players made easy.) Btw this is just to show how you can categorize people and how 343 is catering to reach fans. Disclaimer: I have no idea where ascend hyperion got his halo data from and I generally do not agree with his points on the franchise but I do think this video was spot on. As for what you’ve “seen”, its irrelevant as it is relative to yourself. There either is a majority that is ok with these features, or there is not. I can claim to have “seen” the opposite; (that the majority are not ok with these features) and there is nothing you can say to prove me wrong. I would need hard evidence to prove you wrong and you vice versa to prove me wrong. BUT THE MAIN TAKEAWAY is that I am just generalizing. Of course I can’t say that all older fans like x and all newer fans like y, i’m just broadly speaking for both because it is easier that way.
Regardless of whether those things (t rating, non classic features, fracture armor) are accepted by the community as a whole or not, their inclusion as a whole is not catering to veteran fans and is catering to new fans, which is my whole point.
> My point is your actively ignoring a ton of catering to old fans that 343 has done. Just about everything marketing related, art design related, music related, story structure related is ALL nestalgia bait for old fans. They have done very little that actually goes against old fan wishes. Old fans wanted more classic designs - check, old fans wanted sandbox focused gameplay - check. Removal or distancing from 4 and 5 characters - check, on a Halo ring - check, CE style levels (given infinite isnt actually open wold and more like ODST only without hard cuts to said levels) - check, challenge based rewards - check , removal of lootboxes - check, removal of warzone - check, increases emphasis on BTB - check, classic snake and eagle team symbols - check, removal of a majority of spartan abilities - check, nerfed sprint to the ground - check, changed radar back to classic radar - check, went to a more classic style of Halo music - check.

> What have they done for new players? Made it free to play (cause I guess veterans hate this?) - check, removed red v blue and replaced it with outlines - check, kept sprint (though again, a severely nerfed one)- check, kept clamber - check, fracture armor to allow for some more none canon looks - check
I agree with you on one point, 343 is indeed marketing the game for older fans, but that is not the same as releasing a product for older fans**.** For just about everything you mention, there is a counter and heres why. Either 343 has implemented a feature that appeases to new fans or they are implementing something that should have been there from the moment they acquired halo and are just now fixing their mistakes. Or they are minute gameplay details that don’t really affect the game as a whole. (This is just a short list i made to help myself keep track of everything)
-Art style: Again, the art style has been changed, but what has come with that? Fracture armors. +1-1=0 gain
-Sandbox gameplay: The sandbox focused gameplay is a plus i’ll give you that. +1
-Removal of halo 4/5 roots: This could actually be seen as a step backwards, especially for newer fans who are more likely to be invested in those characters but lets just say there is no increase since older fans have received nothing +0
-CE style levels: Fair enough +1
-Challenged based rewards: I’m not sure what rewards you are talking about but im pretty sure all armors/skins are available from the season pass or exclusive offers. Last time i checked 343 hasn’t confirmed challenge based rewards.
-Removal of lootboxes: Moot point. There are still mtx that act as copouts. Plus, this is more of a negative towards everybody, not just old fans +0
-Removal of warzone: Welp, sucks for halo 5 fans lmao (and myself, i actually liked warzone). +0
-Increased emphasis on btb: +1 I guess? Not sure how this effected old fans
-Classic symbols: Minute detail +0
-Removal of spartan abilities: False. Sprint, clamber, slide are all in the game. This is something classic fans hypothetically don’t want. +0
-Nerf sprint to the ground: This is even worse. Now new fans are left thinking the sprint is useless and old fans still have to deal with it changing the gameplay. +0
-Changed the radar: Minute detail. Should have never been changed and has nothing to do with old fans. +0
-Music: +1
So do you see the general gist of what is happening here? These are all almost all features that either: should have never been changed by 343 or are just now being addressed this long into the franchise. And we haven’t even made it to the classic features that have been asked for for years that are not in the game but I am literally at the world limit for this post so please go back and read the other examples I gave.
> To be honest, I am struggling for the rest in which its catering to new fans more.
You answered this yourself:
> What have they done for new players? Made it free to play (cause I guess veterans hate this?) - check, removed red v blue and replaced it with outlines - check, kept sprint (though again, a severely nerfed one)- check, kept clamber - check, fracture armor to allow for some more none canon looks - check
I suggest you watch the ascend hyperion video. It is very insightful and also shows how 343 is catering specifically to the reach kid, which doesn’t necessarily mean classic halo fan. But overall my original point in this thread was to point out that 343 is following the same basic steps (which have yet to work) instead of following the tried and tested halo formula. They are once again trying to cater to everybody and if previous games are anything to go by, it’s going to cost infinite harshly
