What do you think happened to Del Rio after he was relieved of his position? How did someone like him even end up as the Captain of the Infinity in the first place? Could he be court martialed?
I would assume Del Rio is now settling in at his new post in the Arctic.
SPOILER
From one of the dialogue pieces from the last or second to last mission when “Captain” Lasky addresses the Chief he mentions FLEETCOM being none too pleased when they found out how Del Rio abandoned the Chief on Requiem. I would pay to see their faces too…
FLEETCOM: So…you found the Chief? Alive?!
Del Rio: Yes.
FC: And…you left him back there?
DR: Yes, he would have endangered my ship.
FC: But you left him back there.
DR: His crazy AI nearly blew up the ship and he defied an order to surrender her, as well as resisting arrest! Of course I…
FC: Let’s be perfectly clear Captain. Every single human alive today owes their continued existence to this “aging Spartan and his malfunctioning AI” as you put it. They deserve some -Yoink!- respect as well as having more than earned the right to be listened to regarding threat assessments. You not only left humanity’s heroes back there, you tried to arrest one and destroy the other.
DR: But my ship…
FC: You are no longer in command of the Infinity Captain, you are confined to this base pending finalization of your new assignment transfer. I hear the arctic research outposts are rather cold this year, better bring a sweater.
Basically it was a cowards move.
They do have those giant escort ships that ware slip space capable that he could have sent out. He could have sent a prob. He left the chief and cortana to fight a threat as dangerous as the flood. He ran when he had him on the ropes making that threat even worse. He left men behind. Poor judgment not to mention his alerier motives to the chief and the spartan program.
When he started he was a nobody captain in the feet. That’s why he was picked. He would not be missed during the war. But after him running ayaw from a threat from humanity to save his ship and not sending a smaller ship to warn the fleet was probably seen as a cowards move and was discharged. Probably dishonorable
Well, technically Master Chief was being insubordinate.
Del Rio was DINK for real how could have been in charge.
To answer why he was captain of the Infinity:
Infinity was secretly under construction for YEARS, and they needed a crew that could drop off the map for years with no consequences. Basically, Del Rio was the senior most officer available that had no family to hold him down, so he became the captain. Parangosky wanted Lasky as captain originally, but Del Rio got it for political reasons.
Admiral Hood didn’t want to let ONI have the whole skip to themselves so he assigned Del Rio to the ship so that it was a 50/50 Military & ONI poessession. However Paragonsky knew Del Rio wasn’t a capable fit and was always prepared to give Lasky the position at the first chance
dang politics. but thanks
I still don’t like how Del Rio got what was coming to him OFF SCREEN.
Kind of takes away any satisfaction there would’ve been from personally seeing him being taken down a notch.
Up to the point of Del Rio leaving MC on Requiem stranded, I agree with all his decisions.
The first time I played through the campaign, I found Del Rio to be ridiculous and unnecessarily rude. However, in subsequent playthroughs, it is easy to understand where he is coming from.
Cortana is clearly going rampant, and any Captain would order her immediate termination. Chief was way out of line a few times; in terms of following orders at least.
I do think that Del Rio was a little bit jealous of Chief’s success. Which made him overly prickly when dealing with the Chief; leading to his apparent arrogance.
I just didnt like the idea of putting somebody like Del Rio, on the what seems to be the front line flagship, who is going to run at the first sign of a fight.

he wanted to replace Chief. wasn’t he the dude interviewing Halsey in the beginning of the campaign?

First Halo 5 cutscene/terminal?
He had said the Spartans ii’s are broken.
Make a small level so we can beat him down. or Del Rio’s revolution and we get tp be the beautiful Sarah Palmer. I would play nothing else, ever.
I’m confused, where is the video of this convo between fleetcom and del rio?
> I’m confused, where is the video of this convo between fleetcom and del rio?
its in game not video. the last level when you’re on the broadsword. MC contacts the Infinity expecting Del Rio to pick up instead Lasky does and then Lasky explains what happened
Ugh, Del Rios character is so unrealistic. Hes a captain in an extremely prestigious position (and no doubt has an incredible record which led him to that position), yet he apparently feels insecure enough to yell at the Chief like a scared little boy.
He refuses to consider Chief`s story based on nothing other than the fact that he seems to hold some sort of unexplained grudge against him.
Then he then makes an order to decompile Cortana and arrest Chief… and then apparently forgets all about it. Both are allowed to leave the ship freely. Seriously???
The caliber of storytelling in the entire campaign was just abysmal.

He sent Lasky with the Pelican to arrest Chief or shoot him down if he resists. so you’re wrong
The Military has Officers like that believe it or not. Some are outright insecure and only worry about their own hide and others are cool about things. What makes a real officer is if he draws from both. Their is a time to be a hard -Yoink- and a time to be cool about things.
Normally, a logical commander would have recognised the gravity of a dire situation (See it coming). Take Master Chief and Cortana for example. After all they’ve been through and all they have accomplished… Del Rio should have given into reason and trusted MC. He didn’t though which was suprising really. In the previous Halo Campaigns, all of the Admirals were cool in the gang, but not in this one. Which is a good thing. It shows that even the good guys can make the wrong decisions. That decision led to the DD almost succeeding because of one man’s pride.
