Medium
Any map that is larger than your typical arena, may or may not include low-tier vehicles such as warthogs. Generally designed around 6v6 or 8v8 play, can sometimes support 4v4.
Two sub-categories would be Arena and Open, where maps like the Pit are extended arenas, while maps like Standoff share the open spaces trait of BTB maps and contain vehicles.

Guardian was terrible for 4v4, but yes i do agree with these size descriptions
I agree, and also feel like Halo 4 has dropped the ball when it comes to medium sized maps. Complex and harvest could be better if there were gametypes and team sizes that suited them more, and I’m just not the biggest fan of solace…
This is a great exercise. I can’t argue with what you say. However I think we would benefit from a very rigid system… I would prefer each definition cater very specifically to the team size/combat style. If I may:
Small maps:
4v4 only
Close quarters combat, no snipers.
Few vehicles… at most a pair of ghosts, hogs or mongoose.
My examples: Midship, Battle Creek, Prisoner, Skyline.
Medium maps:
6x6 only
Close quarters and medium ranged combat.
Varied vehicle mix. These maps would be good for placing a tank in the middle.
My examples: Zanzibar, Hang ‘Em High, Landfall, Countdown.
Large maps:
8x8 only
Provides everything from close quarters to long distance combat.
Vehicles are plentiful.
My examples: Hemorrhage, Avalanche, Highlands, Ridgeline.
