Defining BATTLE PASS, PREMIUM and SEASON for you

Notice it says “UPGRADE TO PREMIUM”?

Saying that the Battle Pass does not expire, implies that the Battle Pass does not expire. Which it doesn’t.

You keep the items that you’ve unlocked during Season 1 of the Battle Pass whether you continue as a Premium user or downgrade to a free user. Even if you were never a Premium user and you only unlocked the free tiers, your free unlocks are still available to you unless you used up the consumable items. Those are 1 time use items.

If you choose not to buy Premium again during Season 2 of the Battle Pass , then you’re downgraded to a free user.

Premium users are given the ability to unlock the items from Season 1 of the Battle Pass even after Season 1 has ended, and they also have that 4th challenge slot available to them while doing so. These are perks that come from being a Premium user.

Free users don’t have these perks. They pretty much only have the ability to play the game and unlock free tiers from the current season of the Battle Pass.

Following so far? You paid for PREMIUM, which gets you the following:

The Premium tiers of Battle Pass which are locked to free users
The 4th challenge slot which is locked to free users
The ability to choose which season of the Battle Pass you’re progressing

Premium expires at the end of each season. Your Battle Pass progress for the past season doesn’t expire.

If you downgrade yourself to a free user (by not purchasing Premium again at the beginning of the new season) then you shouldn’t expect to keep your Premium perks.

You purchased Premium during Season 1 of the Battle Pass. Which gave you the ability to unlock the Premium tiers for Season 1 and a 4th challenge slot to use for the duration of the season. The only thing you didn’t get was the ability to progress a past season due to the fact that there wasn’t one.

You were given what you purchased and your purchase expired.

Your progress is still there. You can go back and finish unlocking the tiers from Season 1 by purchasing Premium again, which will also give you access to the Season 2 Premium tiers and the 4th challenge slot which is locked to you right now as a free user.

You’re tossing everything together and not separating Premium from the Battle Pass or the season. This is leading to all of the confusion and frustration.

Premium and the Battle Pass aren’t the same thing. The Battle Pass is available to everyone. Premium and free users alike. Premium perks aren’t.

The original explanation of how this was all going to work was sloppy at best, but it’s all probably covered in detail in the TOS. That thing that nobody actually reads before agreeing to it.

I’m not sure your use of capitalised words is helping you here. Overall it makes it harder to read what you are actually trying to say? My eyes just kept skipping to the next highlighted word.

Basically free users have until the end of the season of get what they want out of the BP. After that they have to pony up.

Exactly.

And I did it to hammer on the point that they’re all different things, with different meanings by emphasizing them and separating them with lowercase text in between.

I was able to re-read it just fine as I was typing it out, so I didn’t think anything of it but I’ll edit the OP to make it more readable.

People are/were under the impression that the Premium Battle Pass, or just the Battle Pass or the Season 1 Battle Pass is what they were making the purchase for. They didn’t realize that Premium was separate from the Battle Pass and Season 1.

Understandably, because of the poor naming and the vague early advertising that was done for Season 1.

With the poor naming carrying over for Season 2 it still reads as “Premium Battle Pass” which can give people the impression that the Premium perks are Battle Pass items, that don’t expire since the Battle Pass itself, your progress and the items you’ve unlocked don’t expire.

With the current naming of it, I would also be under the impression that I should have 4 challenge slots, with a 5th being unlocked for the Season 2 “Premium Battle Pass” purchase.

Especially with all of the third party outlets covering Infinite news using this same naming, making the misconception more widespread.

But I was aware of this from the start.

And I don’t want people to think this is to belittle them or anything like that. It’s simply to explain it, so that people can stop wasting so much energy and time fighting a war that they won’t win.

What they thought they paid for, isn’t what they paid for. That’s it.

Now they can complain about it properly, and hopefully the poor naming will be addressed and 343 will clear it up officially.

I don’t believe it was intentionally done to swindle people out of their money.

I believe that internally at 343 something along the lines of “If they buy Premium for Season 1 of the Battle Pass…” was said at a meeting and the note taken from the meeting read “Season 1 Premium Battle Pass - extra challenge slot - choose your season” instead of taking the time to write it down fully.

It might not have been a meeting, maybe it was an email. Who knows.

Point is, these things happen. Not always a con.
