Ok people, on a light hearted note. What is your definition of a noob? and also a casual?
They are names used quite often on this forum, especially it seems for people that like infinity settings. As this is my first online game, I accept that I am a noob.
But if that’s the worst name I get called in my life, then I’ll be happy.
Also up to now I have only had 4gb. a month, that I could use for xbl. So that also makes me a casual. Or I guess a casual noob.
So, what is your definition of noob, and casual?
Keep it clean ladies and gentlemen, and others.
A noob is simply someone who is bad at the game.
A casual is someone who does not strategize, does not use teamwork, does not try to improve, does not care about winning, just plays casually.

This.
And to add to that, expects games to be catered to their needs so that they don’t have to put effort into getting kills/winning games. Casuals are the ones who want radar and ARs in Slayer Pro, hate the idea of objective games like Flag being added to BTB, want to remove the BR from SWAT, actually like ordnance drops and want vehicles to be buffed (even though I can get 10 kills with every banshee I hop in).
A Noob and a Casual are defined as= My favorite thing to shoot XD

Ok, so even if someone has been playing halo for a few years, if they aren’t good at it they’re a noob? So define what you class as good.
And as for casual, as I have stated, I only get 4gb of data a month. Thus I can only play a couple of hours a night, which I do every night. But I doubt that you try any harder then I do for a team win.
Without doubt you are a far better player then I, but that isn’t a measure of effort. I think the term noob and casual generalises too much.
Basically the way I see it is noob seems to apply to anyone that likes the way 343 designed this game.
The two terms casual and noob go for the most part hand in hand. Most of the time when someone is referred to as a casual player by another player they are in a nicer way being call a noob and told they are not that good. But when someone refers to themselves as a casual they are normally referring to why they are not good at the game i.e. “I dont care about winning”, " I don’t play this game that much", or my favorite because it doesn’t make any sense because everyone does no matter how they play “I play for fun”. Nothing is wrong with being a casual player or a noob though.
People feel like anyone that likes the way 343 designed the game is a noob because 343 dumbed the game down when it is compared to other Halo’s. 343 removed balance, shrunk the skill gap and created instant gratification for all regardless of the skill or input the players provide. The Infinity settings are the prime example of this with personal OD drops, random OD drops, Loadouts, and instant respawn too name a few factors that dumb down the game. Halo 4 and infinity is catered towards noobs and the people who prefer it are going to be viewed as such.
If you prefer T-ball over baseball I’m going to assume you suck at baseball and want an easier game to play.
> Ok, so even if someone has been playing halo for a few years, if they aren’t good at it they’re a noob?
Yes?
You’re confusing ‘noob’ with ‘newb’. ‘Bad Player’ and ‘Noob’ are interchangeable.
> So define what you class as good.
There’s a lot of ways to measure this.
For simplicity, a good player should be able to hold a 1.0 k/d or higher against the random opponents matchmaking pairs them with.
1.0 is the average, good would imply you are above average.
> But I doubt that you try any harder then I do for a team win
Competitiveness is just a scale.
‘Casual’ just refers to someone who is on the extreme left.
Anyone else is just an average player or a competitive player.
> Basically the way I see it is noob seems to apply to anyone that likes the way 343 designed this game.
Casuals will prefer easy gametypes.
Noob is a level of skill, casual is a mindset.
Noob, new player. I like to make it an acronym of New One On Board
Casual, someone who is not purely playing hardcore and overly competitive. These guys don’t always have overinflated egos.
It’s kind of funny how some people here label casual if these people want certain features a certain way.
Ok, thanks for clarifying that. But I do think people tend to generalise a bit much.

On the subject of egos… When I first decided to try xbl, I spoke to my brothers mate, who has been a hardcore gamer for years. When I said I was going to try halo, he laughed and said… halo is ok, just don’t get suffocated by all the ego freaks.
He further stated that most of the really good players have moved on from halo. The ones that are left are not half as good as they think they are. That they inherited the good player reps by default.
A lot of first time players visit forums to get an indication of the game, before they buy it, I know I did. And that is why I wonder at the attitude displayed by some of the so called good players against noobs. It never bothered me at all, but I can imagine it would put off a lot of potential players.
A lot of the old school players can’t seem to get it through their heads that any game needs a new influx of players, in order to survive.
As for the put down of people who like infinity settings, a lot of people enjoy random chaos in a game. Just as the pro fans like running around going bang bang bang with their br.s etc.
Fashions change, not always for the better, but that’s life.
> A lot of the old school players can’t seem to get it through their heads that any game needs a new influx of players, in order to survive.
What new players need to understand is there is no point in Halo being #1 on the charts if it isn’t even recognizable as Halo to begin with.
Sure, the game is popular and making money, but at what cost? Let’s say Halo 5 sells millions, trumps CoD once and for all, but is basically MW3 in space.
I don’t care about its success at that point, it’s dead to me.
> As for the put down of people who like infinity settings, a lot of people enjoy random chaos in a game.
Timmy playing Fat Kid in customs doesn’t bother anyone. If they pick on Timmy for doing it, they are just being -Yoinks!-.
When Timmy gets all his friends, starts proposing changes to the game, and the developers start pandering, people will do anything to defend their game and thus become very aggressive.
Fair enough comment, but if we are playing the blame game then 343 are the culprit. The way they keep chopping and changing things is not too much joy for anyone. Pro or noob.
Casual is a gamer who doesn’t play too often and plays just to have fun
A noob is someone who is bad at the game and often has trouble using both analog sticks at the same time… Or so it seems anyway…

Casual is someone who doesn’t always whine about a game and doesn’t have an over inflated ego, they actually know how to have fun without playing serious

Because we don’t like being forced into games where we have to use one type of weapon
I’m a casual player and I’m excited for that, poor generalization
I prefer the DMR for SWAT but it doesn’t bother me
I think they could re-work the system, make it more difficult to obtain and change the fact you get power weapons
Why not? They get destroyed quickly, and a fair amount of “competitive players” want it

I believe you’re confusing Noob with Newb.
Newb=Newbie
Newbie
Noun
A newcomer or novice, especially an inexperienced user of the Internet or of computers in general.
In my definition: Noob is someone who is really bad at a game.
Casual is someone doesn’t even try to win in any way or get better. They just play Halo to relieve stress or something.
Competitive is someone who DOES want to win and will do anything to get better and win, and probably wants to get to the top of the scoreboard.
And an MLG Elitist is just a Competitive person with an overinflated ego and thinks that just because they have MLG in their gamertag or service tag, that they’re automatically MLG. -.-
elitism is not something that goes hand-in-hand with the mlg scene.
elitism can happen at any skill level, it’s just people with an ego well above their skill level that search social MM that’s the problem. i guess it’s just easier to pass the blame on the idiot with MLG PrO SnipeR as their GT

Because communicating and working as a team can’t ever be fun. The most fun I have in games is when my friend and I are planning.
> Because we don’t like being forced into games where we have to use one type of weapon
If the developers gave automatics some actual skillgap this wouldn’t be an issue.
No, the skill it takes to get close to an enemy is entirely mitigated by how easy it is to hit them at that range.
Noobs just suck at games (or applicable activity
Casuals play for fun, but don’t make an effort to specifically improve
Newbs are just starting out
Hardcores play Halo 3
in the eyes of a warthog driver,
a noob is someone who only goes for splatters, because he thinks it’s a good idea
a casual is someone who only goes for splatters, because they’re funny
