Defiant Fixes... they could use 'em (Constructive Criticism)

I’ll start with the good:

Firefight map - Unearthed - awesome, couldn’t ask for anything more!
Condemned & Highlands - great ideas, the maps are perfect!

Now with the bad:

Why do weapons spawn so constantly on Highlands? Every time I die with a weapon, I can go right back where it spawns and grab a new one. Shotgun, every 45 seconds. Rockets, every 2.5 mins. Sniper every 2 mins. Laser & Plasma Launcher, 1.5 mins. Why do you think this would be a good idea?

Not only the weapon spawns, but the player respawns too. I could be in the back of my base with a Sniper and all of a sudden I’ll have three of the opposing team members behind me, shooting me. They spawned there! What is up with that?

And the graphics on the outside of the map? It looked like they were hand drawn in one day and just thrown on the map. My 7 year old brother could draw 3D pictures better than that.

Condemned is great. The weapons, like Highlands, spawn too frequently though. It’s like these people are trying to make Halo even more n00b friendly.

TL;DR
Keep the maps coming, they’re great. Fix the spawns on EVERYTHING.

The main big issue is Highlands weapon respawn time as you said. It’s pointless running out in the middle, you die too easily!

so basically, weapons spawn to fast and the graphics arnt -Yoink!-. thats all you said and it wasnt that long to read. so no need for TL:DR. Yes the power weapons in highlands spawn really fast. The graphics arnt the best but when im playing i can care less. the only time enemis spawn on your side of the base is when all your teamates are on the enemies space. its not the spawns fault is your teamates fault for being over there. This spawn system reduces spawn killing.

The ONLY problem I have with Highlands is the current power weapon timers. Having the Sniper Rifle, etc., spawn so fast means you will always have someone just setting up a tent the whole game on their respective base. There would be a lot better flow with a longer respawn time. Games can get kind of tedious and end in stalemates because players are in a constant cycle of farming power weapons. Other than that it’s an amazing, well layed out objective map.

I want to keep this thread alive. I Love Highlands but it needs some tweaking. Bungie said 343 would have to make the call. Please 343 make the changes and you have the best BTB map on Reach.

I also agree with a change for the spawn time for the sniper on Condemned. It seems as though there is always a sniper lurking around.

I agree, but it also seems that more of one weapon can spawn at the same time. In Bungie’s maps when someone picks up a rocket, he first has to drop it so it despawns and then the respawn timer begins. When I played Condemned the first day the maps came out, there were at least three people carrying swords on the opposing team. :\

But still the maps are far better than Bungie’s maps in my opinion.

I actually love the way in which the weapons respawn on both the maps. It gives people more power on maps which may be a little tedious to run around on without a power weapon.

If we had to use the Halo 3 mechanics then it would be nearly impossible, IMO, for most people to get a power weapon. Imagine on person from each team getting a sniper, and sitting on it the whole game, lining up every shot with excruciating detail. It would simply take too long.

As far as the Spartan respawns go, I really don’t see an issue. I have been on one side of the map, red or blue, with the sniper, and had the opposing team spawn on my 6. Frustrating, yes.

Then I realized that if I simply checked out where my teammates were in relation to me, it makes total sense where the other team spawns. Rather than allowing for a spawn trap this map has the ability to spawn teams a great deal apart. So as long as I stay somewhat near my team, and not stay in the same position the whole time, there are no issues.

Highlands physically seems built like an inverted Valhalla to me. And the weapon and vehicle placements and spawns seem to mimic Sandtrap/tarp’s take on BTB-map combat.

So take it as is, a variant on combat scenario. Symmetrical, large and contains many, many kill box zones with the means to escalate the zones. Fast spawning vehicles and powerweapons. And that’s just default. Me thinks SWAT games would be freaking awesome on that map. Keep the Mongooses for SWAT.

Isn’t that the point of a sniper rifle? To have to line up your shots with excruciating detail? The sniper as is, is able to “waste” rounds on the Warthog or whatever knowing full well that in a moment he will have another full clip. I really love this map but to me it seems it’s in a Fiesta playlist. Everyone has a power weapon all the time. I am not against PWs. I usually don’t pick them up though and it is somewhat frustrating to be forced to just to play this map. The map is too good to stay as is. IMO. I have yet to play it 8v8. My hope is that it plays better that way. Maybe I am being too picky but this map is so close to being golden that the smallest of details stand out.

To me, the weapon spawns on Highlands are balanced just right to match the vehicle spawns. I’ve found Big Team Battles and CTF matches feel a lot more ‘dense’ and fast paced than other maps that have longer respawns. I always find a CTF game on Blood Gulch or Paradiso involves a lot of waiting around for things to Spawn. Highlands keeps the pace moving.

More importantly, the level is designed in a way that the vehicles have enough cover to still be effective, despite all the power weapons. I’ve personally scored several epic flag captures involving a worthog rush, or a sneak attack on the mongouse.

I think his point about the sniper rifle is that in your average Halo big team game, most players don’t even get a chance to pick it up BECAUSE you end up with one payer hoarding it for the entire match. Games always start with 3 or 4 players rushing the power weapons, and you always get those 1 or 2 jerks who will spend the first 3 minutes of the match sitting and waiting for the sniper to respawn if they didn’t grab it at the start.

Personally, I’d rather have weapons spawn more often, but with less ammo.

The spawn time of the weapons are great in my opinion. It makes the gameplay flow. I don’t mind the dynamic spawns either. I like capturing the opposite team’s base.
