Got tired of reading about the Boltshot being overpowered so, I decided to record some of my gameplay just to show people how easy it is to beat people that use this weapon. The tactics I use in the vid against the Boltshot won’t work against someone that is using any of the CQC power weapons, because they have a higher ROF than the Boltshot, which is what keeps the Boltshot from being a power weapon.

The Scattershot can lose to the Boltshot if the Scattershot guy gets the jump on Boltshot guy.
But, really, that’s because the Scattershot is mega-inconsistant.
Still, instant kill weapons in loadouts are a big fat NO.
You Do realize not everyone will use Hard light shield right? Also considering that the only way to see around a corner is with Promo vision. And still there is a chance that a player won’t be using Promo vision in favor of AA like Camo.
No offense but not everyone is willing to use the Hardlight shield when many other optimal AA are available.
Also, what if you do it too late and you get blasted before the shield comes up because of lagg?
I personally prefer the Hologram over the Hardlight shield but that is just me.
The problem with the Boltshot is that people essentially spawn with a shotgun secondary which isn’t necessarily balanced, even if it is easy to counter.
the problem isn’t even necessarly the fact that if is overpowered. the fact remains it should be a defensive weapon, whilst I see way to many people using it as a primary.
Possible Nerf Idea:
what if they’d increased the reload time and made the shotgun modus waste all the ammo in that particular clip?

(1) You don’t have to use the hardlight shield, the thruster pack and hologram will work well too.
(2) I have some other games saved that show me still winning in a similar situation, when I get a chance I will upload them.
(3) Well I have map specific loadouts so I like the hardlight shield on maps where I run into a lot of CQC. But I think the hardlight shield is one of the underrated AA in the game, I’m even thinking about uploading more of my gameplay using it just to show how effective it can be.
(4) I don’t have a problem with the weapon but, if you guys really think it makes the game unbalanced, the only thing 343 can do is remove the weapon completely because nerfing it will make people not use it anymore.
I would not suggest a nerf if I was defending it. to me, it isn’t wether it is overpowered, it is that is is annoying to die by all the time! and yes, this is due to the instant kill.
and no, not everyone is suddebly walking around with a boltshot when adrift comes around the corner, at least I have seen it being the Tool of Destruction occaisonally, but not THAT often.

Keep in mind, this is a game where we should free use any armor ability we want. We shouldn’t be subjugated to using specifics in avoidance of a weapon that shouldn’t exist in that place. I’ve got a motto now for the Boltshot and I’ll keep repeating it.
Boltshot needs to be fixed, not avoided.
If every single weapon that needs to be fixed with unbalance game mechanics was to be “countered” or “avoided” then we would be welcoming adaptation to unbalanced and or broken game mechanics. At this point the multiplayer experience would be catered towards if not favored towards uneven battles.
I think the OP misses the point. It’s avoidable, I avoid it more often than not. It’s the fact that it is as powerful as it is that is the issue. It’s a 2 action 1SK hitscan mauler that has a tight spread.
These actions are charge and release. if you can aim, you’ll hit your mark.
in order to kill with the plasma pistol in similar fashion you are required to make 4 actions.
These are charge, release, have projectile make contact, and melee.
The plasma pistol has been this way since Halo 1, and it’s gone through a number of changes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen similar calls for this to be changed about it filling the same niche. It just isn’t as fast.
The boltshot needs a range redution and the cost for the charge shot should be a full clip. as it is now, a full boltshot is worth 6 kills.
Magnum, only 5. plasma pistol, dunno because the regular shots kinda suck with it this time around so I haven’t used it much. The main difference is that for those six kills, the boltshot only needs to make optimal contact once per kill. As a secondary weapon, that’s ridiculous.
It looks like he went in early but if I left the camera in my pov you will see that I moved in close enough to draw him out then pulled back to see if he actually had the boltshot so I would know exactly how to attack him. But even if he did wait longer he would have still ran into the hardlight shield and probably kill himself due to the fire reflecting back at him which some of it did in the video.

Well, isn’t that the point? I find these threads amusing, how can you defend a loadout weapon that is capable of 1sk on a fully shielded spartan? It’s ridiculous.
For the record: using armor abilities to avoid the Boltshot isn’t that effective thanks to lag compensation. If you’re not host, but are up against the guy with the worse connection, regardless of YOUR Internet speed getting to the hostbox first, the game allows the lesser connection to push it’s packets through also to the host.
In layman’s terms: You can thrust out of the way, or pull up your shield, but if you try to time it logically, lag compensation will kill you.
Ok, the boltshot isn’t OP in slayer, which is what everyone is using to defend it. However try playing games like CTF or Oddball where people rush at you with it and kill you in one shot. It can even kill people with automatics before they can kill the person with the boltshot.
It’s not a matter of the boltshot being overpowered. It’s that it’s overpowered AND boring, AND a crutch.
If a weapon ruins map movement and if it beats a power weapon handily (See scattershot vs. BS or sword vs BS/Jumppack) off the spawn; something has gone horribly wrong.
If the BS gets a nerf how about the damage of the charge up be reduced? Make it so that a charge up shot only depletes your shields like the plasma pistol. If you fire 5 boltshot rounds consecutively at someone standing still and it doesn’t kill them and their shields aren’t recharging between shots then why should shooting all 5 at once be an instant kill? The charge up should do the same damage as 5 individual shots imo. On top of that it should have splash damage. If they aren’t going to weaken it then make it so that if you fire a charged up boltshot point blank you also get killed in the process.
