Defend The House has proven how broken this game is

The YouTube channel DefendTheHouse has made six videos called Halo Infinite Mythbusters (vol. 1-4 and Repulsor vs. Everything 1-2). I highly recommend them; they are both fun and hilarious, and extremely validating about how horrendously bad this game’s networking and sync are.

The desync in this game is laughable. I feel it playing all the time, and their videos make it abundantly clear. The repulsor shows different things on different people’s screens; sometimes it shows the projectile getting repulsed for one person and not the other, and then the actual hit effect and damage are sometimes opposite what both people visually see.

Even worse, in the newest video (vol. 4) you can clearly see how slow and terrible the hit detection is; they test killing like, 17 or 18 players with a single sniper shot. The first few players all die instantly, and then a delay gets longer and longer until the player in the back takes (and I am not exaggerating here) three full seconds to die, after being shot with the sniper. During which time they can move, shoot, etc. as if they weren’t hit.

So all those times you died after rounding a corner, or vice versa, and said “wtf Halo?!” Yeah, it’s because the game is terribly setup

Anyways, highly recommend the videos, lots of fun stuff and they got Jeff Steitzer to narrate

Having been a huge fan of the Mythbusters series for a while, they do a good job at documenting the way Halo’s physics engines have worked. Halo Infinite seems to hit a wall with its engine and things fizzle out where Bungie’s engines could really take a beating and provide some incredibly wacky results.

I will say this though, I think it has less to do with desync as much as it has to with latency. It’s clear they’re using both NA and EU servers (in a capacity that isn’t made to clear). While desync gets worse with latency increase, it’s difficult to say which is which at that point.

That is true, but I’ve also tested many of the things they showed myself playing on LAN and online with less than 15 ms ping, and in both cases I get the same results. Repuslor and hit registration and all; it’s all not synced correctly. Might be because of latency, but yeah the old games never had that problem so it’s still just a result of poor setup.

I’ve used the repulsor myself in similar ways, notably the scorpion redirect without the visual issue as they have. I do have that clip recorded and it should have the ping displayed as well.

Let me see if I can scrounge it together as an example, if not just a hilarious moment where the driver “nopes” on out of the line of sight.
