The Problem:
If you’re a veteran player (and if you’re reading this you are) who uses default settings then you understand the issue with placing crouch on the B button. When you press the B button you are not able to attack since your thumb must leave the right thumb stick. If you are crouching and turning the corner, you have to take you finger off the trigger to turn while crouched! Well how about toggle? Turn that corner with a toggled crouch and you can certainly attack immediately, but guess who can’t straffe. Maneuvering is thrown out the window and not just in stealth situations. How easy is a crouch jump with crouch on B? Even less so with toggle!?
I was considering Bumper Jumper but how do you aim and shoot while jet packing when your thumb is off the stick? Might sacrifice that ability just to crouch the traditional way.
The Solution:
Switch crouch and sprint. Don’t even make it default! Call it Traditional or Reach control setting. Here’s the beauty of it. Sprint requires a forward motion and enters a non-combat mode. It’s already toggle and replacing a toggle based button from Reach. That means your thumb leaving the right stick is perfectly acceptable.
Halo 4 is in the production stage now right? Is it too late or can a patch allow this control scheme? Does 343 even care?
> Think about it, what will you be doing more? Sprinting or Crouching?
Both
And yes this isn’t the first game to use stick for sprint and B for crouch. Games like COD require much less maneuvering because engagements are much quicker. Halo takes more time to kill and moving away from Halo style controls to COD style controls is IMO not a good thing.
But good point with Recon. I initially was put off by action being the bumper and melee being the B button. I forget that’s incredibly similar to Halo 3 controls. I’ll have to play a ton of Halo 3 before this game comes out.
> Think about it, what will you be doing more? Sprinting or Crouching?
That’s irrelevant. Think about this:
Taking your thumb off the stick for a moment to sprint isn’t a problem, because at that point you’re no longer trying to aim at an opponent, you’re sprinting. But taking your thumb off the stick to crouch is a problem, because it will interfere with crouch jumping etc.
I agree with the above topic! Please make a new controller scheme that turns default sprint to B and crouch back at left analog! Such a slight change and would make me a hundred times happier!!!
