What do you guys think the starting armor should be in the next halo game. You can pick one from the poll or if you have a new idea then you can write about it.
My Idea:
How you start is with just the undersuit and then have a wide open visor like the Eva (good for machinimas). After your first game you get marine style armor and as you progress you get more spartan like armor.
Edit: if your going to vote for new please explain what you have in mine (sorry I forgot to type that)

It still looks better than any other version of it prior to H4.

I disagree. The ‘round’ bulkiness of the new design takes away from the sleeker design that I loved back in Halo 3 and Reach. Especially the helmet. The helmet is what I really dislike about 4’s. I guess it’s not terrible, but it’s not my favorite either.

The Halo 3/Reach variant is the one I saw and automatically hated. It just looked terrible, the visor was large, the forehead was too protruding, and the helmet was just too tall. I like the bulkiness of the 4 variant combined with it’s roundness.

The visor is larger on the Halo 4 variant, so I don’t know where that’s coming from.
Went back and checked, and the top of the helmet doesn’t protrude any more significantly than the Halo 3/Reach version; the Halo 2 version however protrudes significantly more. The height of the H3/R version doesn’t look any taller than the Halo 4 version, if anything the H4 version looks a bit taller, but that might be due to the bulkiness. On roundness, there isn’t any major differences, neither looks more angular than the other.
When I debate the artistic designs of Halo, I take it seriously. Can anyone give some objective changes that make it look better in their opinion, besides bulkiness?
I gotta say, I like how Halo 4 made Recruit the default armour instead of the Mark V/Mark VI for once. It changed things up a bit, and made sure that we don’t have 100 versions of Master Chief running around. I’ll have to vote for Recruit on this one.
Halo 4 and Halo Reach had decent recruit armor, but I voted other because I want Halo 5 to take direction from both of those and create an all new recruit armor.
Ideally, though, I’d rather they let you choose a player model base, like Spartan II, ODST, Marine, Spartan IV. Each would have it’s own armor sets. They wouldn’t have altered game mechanics or characteristics. It’s just all good clean aesthetic fun.
This would be really useful if Halo 5 adopts a heavily integrated armory/commendation unlocking system.
It probably won’t happen, especially if they stick to their whole “MM must make canonical sense” philosophy. But think of the possibility… you could even open it up to Covie or Forerunner characters.

Visor style mainly contributes to the factors I mentioned. As for angularity, neither are terribly so in and of themselves, but I find Halo 4’s variant to take on a smoother and bulkier style that I like better.
If we’re playing as Spartan IVs then I think they should definitely stay with recruit, or some slight variant of it. If we play as another spartan in multiplayer, then I’d be all for a different starting armour
I’d like to see Mk VII. Although I would be okay with something like recruit. I feel like a new Halo should have a new armor set. Ever since we’ve been able to customize the physical pieces of armor, the default armor has been different (Halo 3: Mk VI and CQB, Halo Reach: MK V**, Halo 4: Recruit). Now that I think about it, why not have two starter sets like Halo 3?** -Mustapha
I really like Master Chiefs armor as the default in Halos 1-3. Im kinda surprised that the H4 variation of the armor never made it into multiplayer. Regardless, that would be the armor I want to be the standard.
