Deep Space Anomalies

So with the drop of episode 7 of Hunt the Truth a lot of chatter has begun on the forums. Theories, conspiracies and questions have all been raised, however we have many questions with no answers to follow them. Towards the end of episode 7 we where introduced to Fero for the first time. From the forum speculation this is thought to be Dr. Catherine Halsey. This is my theory of the deep space anomalies, Fero mentions.

For this theory, I will assume that the character of Fero, is with no doubt, Dr. Halsey. How ever this is not a post about “How Fero is Halsey” you can scroll through endless posts explaining that concept with comments that explain the proper way to write “Fero”. This post is about that inbound threat to earth.

At the end of the episode, Fero references a deep space anomaly, a unknown threat, that’s approaching earth, hidden by the dark shadows of deep space. But what could this threat be?
Mashak Maradi the conspiracy theorist was tagged for tracking this inbound threat, it was mentioned in an earlier episode, but we still do not know what this threat is, and either does the Fero character. But could that just be them not telling the whole ‘truth’.

My idea is that this inbound threat is actually that of Jul 'Mdama, alongside Halsey. With the events of Halo 4 Spartan ops, we see a collaboration Halsey and Jul 'Mdama.

during the events of halo 4 Spartan ops, Dr. Catheire Halsey is kidnapped (ironic right) by Jul 'Mdama, in which a collaboration between the two is formed.

Both seem to have hateful feelings towards ONI. This would mean they are working together to get revenge and take out ONI (I know it sounds a little dramatic and possibly far fetched) Could it possible that Fero is just using Ben to ensure her plans continue unnoticed, using Ben as a vehicle for her revenge. All this smoke to cover what is really going on, distract ONI while something much bigger is going on. It would all be a setup, Mashak and Fero working together using the opportunity that has arisen, using Ben to start the fire making smoke over the truth.

This theory leaves many questions, and creates a lot of holes that probably won’t make much sense. However this is all just speculation. Just a thought I had. What do the people of the forums think? I would like to hear your opinions, I could be way off the mark here, but isn’t that the point of speculation the theories.

good theory!

Cheers, I just wanted to share my thoughts, it could be a really interesting way to incorporate the characters into this story, and seeing as 343 is taking the opportunity to link everything together (a really good job, I really like the way they are incorporating a wide range of aspects into the lore eg. The Halo 2 cover art and that fresh golden warthog). We will just have to wait and see what next week brings.

You may actually be right about this, because in the Halo Escalations comics, Halsey and Jul 'Mdama got the other part of the key and now know where every single piece of Forerunner tech is so maybe they’re just now finding them and activating them. Another good theory I saw on the Bungie forums is that the mysterious anomalies could actually be the flood making their return. Exciting stuff I tell ya lol.

It’s possible it’s Halsey/Jun though that arc isn’t finished in the comics just yet with a 2 parter coming up:

#19 - An unexpected ally joins a team of Spartans for a dangerous operation—a secret mission into a hidden Forerunner world where the mysterious site known as the Absolute Record awaits!

#20 - “The Absolute Record” part 2—Operation: ATHENA is underway and there is no turning back. Will Commander Palmer’s team survive the treacherous journey into an ancient vault of Forerunner secrets?

I have only just started reading the comics, they are really enjoyable. I’m only up to the 6th issue. The flood is a really intresting theory, I think that’s a real good shot, it would make a lot of sense.

No… Not Damarco

^ Off topic, but that moment happened in my last read.

I dunno, I just figured it was Precursor activity.

Halsey isn’t truly on Jul’s side–why would she be? He wants the destruction of the human race. She’s playing him, and while she is trying to get revenge on ONI, she’s not about to work with Jul to achieve that goal. FERO is most likely Halsey, and she’s trying to undermine ONI’s reputation and bring them down with her.The deep space anomalies are most likely the Flood, because FERO seems to genuinely not know what they are and if she’s Halsey then she wouldn’t have said that; she could have just been unambiguous and said “it’s a rogue Covenant faction with Forerunner technology” and no one would question her on it. She wants Earth “to have a headline”? Then ideally speaking she needs more than “we are all going to die” as she said, she would want to be as clear as possible on what’s about to happen to sell the story.

All she knows is that something is coming. I doubt it’s the Covenant because, well let’s be honest, they’re no longer the main threat or focus of the story anymore. This is all about humanity’s Reclaimer legacy, and as such the threats are highlighting that story; the Flood highlight it perfectly and they’ve even been prophesied to return to test that legacy. Fighting the Covenant as the main threat once again would feel like back peddling.

It feels too obvious that Jul will get rid of Halsey as soon as he gets what he needs. So, this could already be Halsey lonewolfing.

This is such a brilliant advertising campaign. I have no idea who FERO (thought it was Pharaoh?) is, or what the anomalies are. All I know is, I cant wait to find out.

My best guess is some faction of the covenant or flood has access to forerunner ships that we’ve never seen before. But this has absolutely no basis on logic or facts, it’s just a guess.

Precursor activity, aye. That would be really intresting.

This is a great point, the return of the flood does make a lot of sense. It’s most likely going to pay off with a big reveal and when I think about the covenant might not be it.

I do do agree that Fero was very vague about what these occurancies are, she states, she has no idea. But could this just be the way this story go’s, only part of the truth being told, while the other half is swept under the rug.

Its ts got me thinking with Halo Escalation , with Jul and Halsey searching and activating the forerunner tech, maybe this anomaly is the so called ‘guardian’.

I know now what you mean though, it doesn’t make sense for Jul and Halsey working together to take out ONI. One wants to emilinate existence, while one just wants to underpin the structure.

Intresting, seems each episode answers questions but just brings more to the table.

Good read

Am I the only one who noticed that in Halseys journal, (that came with halo reach legendary edition) there is an entry that has a picture of a part of space with an arrow pointing to it stating, “a new threat?” It was referring to these deep space anomalies if I remember correctly. This gives me the idea that FERO is halsey.
I’m looking forward to finally finding out what these anomalies are.

.

Oh man I just gotta find out what they are!!

I just dug that old thing up to see what you were talking about! Excellent find!

I thought that was in relation to the Covenant…will need to re-read it now

To be fair you could be on to something. Halo wars focused on the covenant finding a batch of forerunner ships. Maybe some group did find another shield world (according to some of the books the forerunners had built several) filled with forerunner ships. Not sure where i heard this but Halo 5 might have something to do mysterious attacks on some outer colony worlds, so you may be onto something.

Same. I think it’s the precursors returning to take back control of the Galaxy after the forerunners ran them off and the flood failed to bring the Galaxy back into “order”.
