Dedicated servers

Are we getting This anytime soon?

Also sorry if there’s another thread.

They claim we are using them, nevermind the “Host migration in progress” I get every other game.

Sadly just like much of what we were told about Halo MCC, almost all were lies.

No Dedicated Servers.
Matchmaking is broken as hell, and playlists are no where near what I remember from any Halo title.
Hit Detection is a joke.
Co-op stutters like crazy. lol 60 fps my -Yoink-.
Original Xbox ran Halo 2 better than Xbox ONE does

They claim that “the majority” of games are being played on dedicated servers but I’m calling bs. I might test that tonight and wireshark my xbox.

Well, they claim we are using them for the MAJORITY of the matches being played. That number could be 50.1% though and still not be a false statement. Still ironing out issues. Not surprised, since Bungie only ever used P2P so this is a first for the franchise.

Haha this is true, and probably an accurate percentage.

i mean…it just seems like the games shouldn’t be as laggy as they are, halo 2 anniversary mostly…

They are not on dedicated servers. Read how 343 states that it works carefully (they have CYA). (Not guess work, my friend works at 343).

Also, only 20% of the ‘Halo team’ is working on MCC and that will only decrease if anything (80% dedicated to Halo 5 and has been since 11/11/14).

So it’s far from ‘split down the middle’

They also mentioned they are still optimizing the servers, and we revert to p2p in the event that dedis don’t work. So really hard telling what the percentage is.

For me it seems that Halo 3 lags a lot - when I throw a grenade there is a noticeable delay in the animation, it’s weird. It’s been there on several games in the past few days.

Halo 2 Anniversary isn’t without it’s problems for me though, I get really awful framerates at random moments. And split screen is unplayable.

Agreed. I have a hard time seeing the big fuss over it though. It’s a known issue, got it. Old Halo was always P2P; 343 wants the MCC to run on dedicated servers. Great.

It’s funny, people get up in arms about Halo “being the way you remember it”, only when it works to their advantage, lol. I’m shocked that 343 “promised” dedicated servers and those people weren’t just as apoplectic that “it wasn’t Halo as we remembered it”.

I understand that Older Halo titles were also P2P, but the Old Halo also worked so much better than these are. And as for the “way you remember it” Back when we were all playing Halo 2 and 3 on P2P rarely do I remember emptying a whole clip into someone and having almost none of those shots registering, even when you clearly see that they are.

I am not a programmer nor do I know what goes into making something like this, but I would assume they coded MCC for dedicated servers. By them switching to P2P after being coded for Dedicated, would’nt that cause some type of conflict in the coding? Which may be the cause for the matchmaking issues, since everyone is trying by the code to get dedicated servers, when that fails someone is chosen as host and the rest try and connect to him. And since the system does’nt see you as a dedicated server it locks up.

Again please be kind in the responses. As I stated I don’t have any clue what goes into coding these things, so I may be way off base in that line of thinking.

Careful guys, the thought police can hear you guys insulting 343

tell your friend to get his -Yoink- together

They are using them all the time. The only problem is if one person in your lobby sucks with his internet or is from a different country or whatever it is that causes him not to connect to the dedicated server then everyone has to use a crappy P2P connection. They really should’ve just programmed in dedicated server support like Halo 5. Sure we might get the whole multiplayer to go down sometimes and perhaps some people would never get to play, but at least not all of us would suffer.

yeah halo 3 seems to lag the most for me. right after a smooth halo 2 match with no issues i get a pretty laggy halo 3 match.

also i kind of hate how the halo 2 shield regeneration noise sort of makes a ‘gun hitting your shields’ noise sometimes. i think this is a transferred problem from the halo 2 vista port tho

They sold the game on the back of dedicated servers. They didn’t say we will try to deliver dedis. They sold dedis.

Dedis are a promise there won’t be anymore standbying. That’s to all our advantage.

But I’ve been standbyed.

Your post is offensive to those that bought the system for a lot of money for this game.

That makes no sense at all. When people say “halo as we remember it”, they are referring to guns, spawns, graphics, maps, etc etc. Basically just raw gameplay. Dedicated servers are just a way to make the game even smoother without any player having an advantage. Point is no one cares if they improve the non gameplay aspects by making it play smoother with dedicated servers. That was a selling point for the game that everyone was looking forward to, hence we have threads like these wondering where they are at.

I’ll be honest and say I don’t have any definitive “proof” that I’ve been playing Halo 3
on dedicated servers…but I can say I’ve been playing a lot of it, and the lag is nothing
like it used to be(i.e. on the Xbox 360).

Once in a while someone with a crap connection will jitter around and such
but besides that I’m actually -really- happy with Halo 3(MCC).

I’ll have to try more Halo 2: Anniversary. I’ve been avoiding that flavor just due to the
massive pile of bugs that sucker has built into it. :frowning:
