Alright, obviously dedicated servers are a big thing that are being added now to all these Halo remakes.
But in all honesty I’m not completely sure what the pros and cons (if any whatsoever) there are to them.
I understand it eliminates to whole host system but other than that I don’t know much.
If someone could give a quick rundown on the things they know about dedicated severs that would be great. Thanks
Essentially Microsoft is the host (or in other words, the server itself is the host).
There’s no one player having host advantage over another.
Since the game is being hosted from a server and not someone’s xbox itself there’s also more processing power.
There’s no real disadvantages that I know of, except the obvious cost and maintenance differences.
Host advantage is eliminated, the server setup basically equalises connection and any advantages arising from differences in connection are eliminated. Lag is generally non-existant on games with dedicated servers, like early Gears of War 3 was, or Battlefield 3.
Dedicated servers are the best servers available, especially for a project of this scale. 60FPS will only reinforce the responsiveness of gameplay along with the elimination of any latency delay typically caused by lag.
TL;DR IS GOOD THING
The only con is that Microsoft has to pay to keep them running but considering that they are based off Azure, I don’t think we have to worry about them shutting down anytime soon.
Dedicated servers sounds cool but hoping they allow custom games offline too, sometimes it’s nice to have a friendly off-line game.
there can still be lag in the game for you but it would be because of your internet connection rather than a bad host. It will be a much fairer system but doesn’t get rid of all lag issues completely, it’s just a fact of life with any distributed network.

I think splitscreen for mcc has already been confirmed by 343i.
All very good news to me. If it consistently clears up connections that would be great. Because even the slightest lag can be severe when you’re a SWAT player.
