DEDICATED SERVERS H5 Finally!!!

Good News
343 will finally support Dedicated Servers for the next XBOX ONE Halo title,Thanks for all your support and keeping this thread alive.Evething you see below is the fight we had for the pas 2 years to have Servers.

GOW3 and BF3 got them why not Halo?
H4 ABSOLUTELY need DEDICATED SERVERS.
Host was to much advantage in past Halo’s.

1-No more Host = More competitive play ,no more lag vs worldwide gamer cause you will play people in your area,West side,East side, europe, ausie, mexico… So no more game laggy VS Pedro or Francois.

2-No more black screen and Host migration in the middle of the game.

3-Also mean Massive Multiplayer like 16v16 and more ,IMAGINE (Super-Big-Team)

4-No more cheating like Host booting and lag switch.
—H4 + Ranks 1-50 = Host Booting(DDoS)—
—H4 + Dedicated Servers = NO Host Booting(DDoS)—

Many of you are missing the point or have no idea what dedicated
servers are. Dedicated servers can be hosted by anyone, anywhere and any machine. Dedicated Server isn’t something that has to be necessarily hosted by microsoft or on an xbox console. It can be done via your own personal computer and then all others with halo 4 can connect to your server. The peer to peer thing is getting ridiculous. I spent time playing on mw3 360 and the host was lagging cause they were on a moderately congested network or wifi. Dedicated servers would eliminate most of that and the need for consoles to host the game. Home connections aren’t usually suitable for server hosting anyway since residential connections are usually lacking in the sufficient upload bandwidth and other factors go along to make hosting servers at home just bad. The developers saying that it would be too expensive to allow dedicated servers is nothing but an excuse. They could just release a server binary for linux or windows then we could use that to host the game on and still matchmaking would be able to work with that and they would never have to worry about dedicated server cost. It can be done. The devs for Section 8 Prejudice (for all console versions) has managed to do dedicated servers like this and also they partnered up with the largest game server provider (which was a smart thing to do). Another benefit of dedicated servers would be banning cheaters rather than rely on microsoft to suspend their xbox account we could have them out of our hair in mere seconds and if we want to make sure they never come back we could also do subnet IP banning.

If 343i does choose to go with p2p instead of dedicated servers, it’s just a sad sign that Halos days as a AAA title, as one of the best, is forever gone. Even Live Arcade titles can offer it, but not MS best series?
Does that make sense to anyone?
If it’s back to p2p again, there will be nu custom games browser, no tournaments or ladders for the rest of the world, blackscreen, host advantage, slow matchmaking, bad trueskill and uneven teams not to mention quitters and 1 vs 4 situations.
Population will flee Halo 4, and for the right reason. Well, I could always stick with Homefront, Bf3 or Gears of War instead ^^
I love the fact that a game that has at best 1/20th of Reach population still has better trueskill, lower matchmaking times and less lag then any Halo has ever had. Dedicated servers are a must, simple as that.

Its just a mater of time before Halo got is OWN Servers cause we know its the future of online gaming.

Lets push 343 to have servers like GOW3 have today (and work very well)

If you guys AGREE on SERVERS add your Thanks below or post your Opinion.

What was magic with halo compared to other Games is that the netcode was good there wasn’t to much host advantage except for lag , Yes we need dedicated serveurs , but separating every gamer ( France from Canada etc … ) Can’t be a great idea. A solution has to come up obviously

This is Halo without dedicated servers.

Imagine good Netcode with dedicated servers, ultimate online experience, more competitive play.

Those are pretty expensive to maintain you know. Servers are only really needed for game with huge multiplayer matches. That’s why MAG uses them and not CoD.

No need to have huge multiplayer, look at GOW3 no more host advantage with the shotgun sniper…
Halo can keep host in social match’s but add servers in Ranked match’s or MLG.

And where exactly would the funding for the servers come from? The funds to maintain them? What about people who are far away from the closest server? It’s not so simple.

What exactly is so special about dedicated servers? GOW3 were saying how good the multiplayer matches are but I still lag about as much as I normally do in Reach.

Absolutely.

If there was only one feature I was allowed to raise, it would be this. Dedicated servers simply increase the quality, popularity and longevity of a multiplayer game.

It has worked extremely well for the Bad Company series on the consoles. Even now it’s easy to find the game you actually want in BC1, let alone BC2. I’m sure there are other examples of this.

Using dedicated servers opens up the option of drop in/drop out games, and larger teams. Imagine the epic big team games that could last anything up to an hour. I personally have also wanted bigger teams in Halo, bigger everything! Lag wouldn’t be as much of an issue either.

I don’t know if it’s your ambition to make bigger teams, or bigger games, but I really think it should be. Sure, Halo will always be popular but let’s kick it up a notch and see what happens. I suppose there’s an argument that Halo doesn’t need dedicated servers simply because of it’s popularity, and maybe that’s fair.

One last thing, as much as I loathe and detest online passes and all that jazz, there’s an opportunity for one here. The only circumstances where I think it’s fair to use online passes is when the developer/publisher provide dedicated servers. Just like BF3 will do.

That’s my take on it and I want to stress that this, for me, is the single most important thing for Halo 4.

I’ve been campaigning for dedicated servers with Bungie since Halo 2 predevelopment.

For example in Reach I am so tired of having to wait while someone quits and it always seems the host quits too. Don’t even start me on host migration, this happens so often because of cheaters and poor connections it’s actually more intelligent that Halo 3 but end results is more host migration and less time gaming!

Another example is I’m sick of cheaters at the network manipulation level. They cheat for host, they network lag, they host boot, they standby and so forth.

While Bungie/Ms have done amazing work in peer2peer and matchmaking it has reached its limited technically and would be beneficial to go dedicated servers. Trouble is this has to be regional dedicated servers to be fair for gamers (which is what peer2peer achieves). So a few servers centres for USA, some for europe and at least 1-2 for Australia with more around the world obviously.

However I just don’t see 343/Ms doing this. Why? Simply because they will still sell Halo 4-6 just the same and NOT have to invest the 10’s of millions worldwide for datacentre’s bandwidth, servers, developers and maintenance staff etc.

Personally I’d like to see less marketing budget and deliver a truly ground breaking dedicated server system. Use it for the new Halo trilogy and then lease it out to other developers or make it a premium xbox live subscription system etc.

There are plenty of ways they could reshape Xbox live for the next 10 years, improve gaming quality, almost eradicate cheating and host migration issues while still being creative about their revenue streams.

I don’t think it’s a complete necessity in multiplayer but it would be nice. However, Firefight and Campaign need it 100%.

I don’t think 343 has the cash to maintain dedicated servers, even though Halo is popular, it’s still no CoD, GoW or BF.

I absolutely support this 100%. 1 thing that was a huge flaw in H3 was the advantage of host and unregistered bloodshots that should of counted. Without that H3 would of been a near perfect game. Please make it happen 343.

If this will put and end to the countless hours spent in blue-screen and now black-screen, dedicated servers ftw!

I think Halo 4 would be Awesome with Dedicated Servers.

343=Microsoft
No money you said !!!

I agree. I usually play Firefight at least once when I play and my internet sucks so I feel bad when I’m hosting because I know the other guys must be having troubles. Also pretty much when ever I play Firefight it lags a bit.

In every single game I have played since the second day of the games release people always leave really early in the game. Why do they leave? My team once won because the entire other team left.

I agree so much on this, i’m tired of lag and lag switches!

I would rather not have Matchmaking shut down after a year.

Besides, Reach’s “netcode” is so good that host advantage is very minimal… and this is coming from a Canadian so I’m furthest from host 9/10 games.

And 99.99% of those complaining about “lag switches” just had a family member download something at that time and have never actually been cheated. Those who actually have been cheated know how rare it is (excluding Squad Battle and Team Throwback but that’s what happens when a playlist doesn’t have enough population to support proper ranking).

A lack of dedicated servers in Halo 4 would be the torch thrown on the funeral pyre that the Halo franchise has been building for itself.

It would really show fans how far Halo has fallen when other AAA games are getting these features but Halo is not.
