Dedicated Servers and Competitive gameplay?

How will it work? Ranks? JIP (which has to be implemented?) etc.

All we know about Halo on Xbox One is that it will be 60FPS, have dedicated servers and release in 2014.

We don’t know specifics on features like ranks, JIP, etc and we likely won’t know for months to come.

JIP is something that should be determined by the playlist. Ranking is ranking and unique to each game. We haven’t heard a thing about it because we’re over a year away.

Dedicated servers will make connection requirements near moot. Location to the server/continental location is more important than one’s actual internet connection.

Host advantage is gone. Stand-by cheaters are gone. There is a slight advantage to being closer to the server than someone else but with regional server centres, the advantage is all but removed.

The best part about dedicated servers, well beyond the host-bridgers being neutered, is that there is no server Box.
The MP portion of the game can run smoother as the CPU isn’t bogged down with network hosting calculations. This is very likely to tie into framerate performance and that’s a good thing.

Where Halo will now be able to run at 60fps, whether in part or in full to the servers is regardless because the servers will help the 60fps maintain stability.

As there will likely still be LAN, and therefore P2P hosting, and therefore an X1 has to host a game, I cannot speculate as to the performance stability of the game as I have not seen and/or felt it in action.

Without having to worry about who hosts online, finding a game can theoretically match liked skill levels much quicker.
