Decimus

Hey everyone, just lost my first match for this season, and it was to a decimus, engineer, chopper, and jump pack brutes. I am not complaining at all the player beat me fair, and rushed me like i would him. My question here is how to counter such a strong leader so early? any ideas would be helpful obviously snipers and such but it was in first 5 minutes and tech was in process but cancelled when he killed my army.
Any ideas or comments welcomed even the, “Get Gud kid” I don’t mind the childish nature of immature people! Thanks again to anyone!

build your scout unit and defend your base. depends on your leader. some unsc can defend against choppers with marine grenade spam and turrets. others cant and need to rely on their hero. same with banished.

Just have to overwhelm him early on, and keep your units moving. He can’t stun until the tech 2 upgrade, so some units can avoid his hammer hits even after being pulled in. And, when he gets siphon going, he heals in this annoying/slow/powerful way (the warlord).
Id use mostly infantry and a hero, I think. You want to take down the engineers too, because he has so much health.
Also, warlord is slow. So if you can get some base destroyers behind him, you can wreck his eco.

We don’t see the game in question in your game history.
Basically for UNSC I’d say make snipers. For aliens, suicide grunts defensive play I guess …

The choppers and brutes aren’t the problem. It’s that darn Warlord with the engineer support that can mess up your day. If you can, kiting him can be effective and nuking him with your army might help, but is super risky to lose that battle.

I’ve run into this a few times, and I actually think it is one of the most effective strategies. I really haven’t had a lot of success against Decimus rushes, if you turtle, you’ll really be behind. With that said I’m always UNSC, so I’m suseptible to that -Yoink-.

Marine ball beats it. Just micro

grenades on choppers, focus healers and then hero? btw your a god

I can’t see the game in your History, are you using an alternate account? With more data I can see what things you could’ve changed in the game.

OK so it seems he had a slight advantage in the form of having the Warlord out. I suppose you surrounded him with flamers, which isn’t exactly bad until he uses his Y ability and kills them all.

He used Vortex on your marines, so I’m fairly sure he killed your flamers using his Y ability. I see you tried to switch to Snipers but was probably too late and he just picked them up at your doorstep.

This is what you should have done differently:

-Scout his Raid Camps. I see you had a Rabbit which is a good sign!
-If you spot his raid camps, make sure your Barracks is at your nearest mínibase, so snipers won’t get picked up if he shows at your main.
-Don’t go flamers, those are a waste against AoE heroes like Chosen or Warlord. Go snipers, and keep them away from the enemy, don’t let him pull or vortex them.
-Lastly, a good old turret can help.

If your economy allows:
-Anti infantry upgrade on the turret.
-Marine Grenades.

Vortex + Warlord early is pretty tough to deal with in T1. I haven’t played against many deci rushes but I think turtling up with 4 turrets with a quick T2 would be effective.

As long as you’re able to build a strong army in T2 and wipe most of their army in a fight you can undo the disadvantage from giving up map control early.
