I think this is hopeless but I bought the game and I’m still kinda playing it after all so here I go.
Decimus is underpowered. Reason for that is that he’s meant to have a very damaging army, not relying on veterans drops and orbital strikes. But in fact, Decimus can never deal more damage than Hunter’s brand, Inferno, Eradication, etc … supported by unit drops. NEVER.
I think that Decimus should actually deal more damage because training units is 100% planification while always predictable by the opponent. Whereas all those nice leader powers can pop up basically at anytime anywhere to break your army and your base.
Last patch made him look like he’s broken now to players who don’t use him (of course), but this is so wrong. That was just a step towards balancing things. I like every Decimus powers, but they need to be more effective.
Just a note, prepare for a lot of salty trolls on this thread.
Anyways I disagree with your statements, Decimus may not have crazy high damage abilities or lots of drops, but Vortex is an early and mid game nuke, and his passives sent him in a league above most. Decimus Drop isn’t even too shabby.
Decimus’ weakness is that he can’t compensate for mistakes with drops or many high damage abilities, but great micro can make up for that.

I concur a lot of this. People are quick to crap on his boundless siphon but frankly it can REALLY be a game changer in some battles, along with boundless fury.
But Breezy is right, you have to really micro well and use vortex wisely.
Quick note on micromanagement ; That’s funny I wanted to make a poll about that, asking how do people micro if they micro at all. But the poll would not create …
Well I think I’m among the very few players who constantly, I mean, CONSTANTLY use groups. And the way I play, monocasting bothers me … Know what I mean ?
And another little note on Vortex ; lol, that’s also funny that you are talking about using it wisely, because since last patch, they are all playing Decimus just to use it on every single chopper/grunts they see. My use of Vortex is as wise as the Dalaï Lama in comparison.
I know very well why I “main” Decimus (not for much longer). I think he’s too much sweat for nothing. You are saying that great micro can compensate all those lacks ? Interesting … I’d say requiring great micro to be on par with one-clicks is a drawback by itself, because see OP (^^ nice loop).
And I could argue that great micro is impossible to achieve in this game anyway, but that’s not my point. I’m just talking about the raw power of the armies.
I assumed Decimus was supposed to be in a better place. But he has never been even as good as Kinsano. (I must admit I don’t know how is the Kinsano vs Decimus match-up right now)
I can agree with your thoughts, however imo Decimus is meant to be more of a gain control and never look back charecter. I know a lot of people disagree, but I like the aspect of how he can be significant in 3s, and right around part in 1s.
I guess what I’m saying is i think if you look at the complete game, factoring in 2s and 3s, he’s in a great spot. I’ll even go as far as his banshee army’s along with obvious esrly game dominance are2nd to none in team play.
I understand we are not looking at team balance, btw, i just like to add that teams are indeed part of the game.
I’m a Decimus main, and unlike you chopper spam noobs I’ve been using him since the very beginning. What makes him stand out is that he has a lot of passives that power his forces. He doesn’t need many unit drops or special powers because his powers instead offer unit gains such as damage and health bonuses.
As as a player, I don’t like controlling leader powers. I’d rather just click something and have it go off in an instant, and that’s why decimus is my ideal leader. I’d say at a tier perspective he’s pretty good, especially with the chopper shenanigans.

Yes Decimus’ Banshees are insane!
I have no clue where the game makers are going. Focus on Teams or 1v1?, insist on blitz, taking care or other game modes? Idk. But you’re right I’m talking about 1v1 balance.
Latest DLC leader Johnson is clearly not a solo leader though … so yeah I guess teams are very relevant.

Well I think Decimus would win against Kinsano simply because Banished are just better then UNSC in just about every regard right now.
And I don’t know that great micro makes him better then other leaders or just as good but rather because of his passives you really have to micro well to get the most out of them in lieu of not having any army killing actives or great unit drops.

Question: is it relevant to use the teleport to escape eradicate or is that just positive thinking I’m relatively new player and though I got some time in as Decimus I’d like to know what can be done to offset this.

Teleport is a perfectly viable escape method to just about any leader power. However, if you are paying attention to your units when eradication goes off, you can simply walk them out of it before the detonation. I’d only use teleport as a last resort.

Yes teleport is always good. I wouldn’t use it to escape eradication though. And make sure you have the 12 o’clock power. It makes all your army faster. I find it just a little bit weak but it’s not bad.
I think with his style, he should do better in 1s for instance. If you check out the leaderboards, in the top 100 Cutter is much more represented than Decimus as offensive leaders. It looks like players with agressive playstyles will rather play (or just be more successful with) Cutter than Decimus, while Banished > UNSC atm

I’m not asking for anything. I just wanted to say that the last DLC leaders reinforced my feelings on this topic. Decimus has the weakest Spirit drop … and that’s not even an offensive one.
