Death X's and weapon despawning

In honesty, I feel as if 343 has done a really good job with Halo 4. It isn’t perfect, however. Help us, help you, help us 343. Haha. But seriously, no death X’s in Halo? Outrageous. Listening to the playback of an MLG or of a Team Slayer match from Halo 3 or Reach - skilled teams use about half of their call-outs to alert teammates of their death. Between having no “X” teammates can use to cull information and having such quick weapon despawning, teamwork becomes unreasonably more difficult and almost discouraging. The teamwork aspect has certainly not vanished in the creation of Halo 4, but I feel it has deteriorated.

I miss the red X. It would be much more useful than the kill cam. Get rid of that and give us the red X please.

You can see a red flash when an ally is being shot at and when they die there nametag disappears The red X is not need and it tells you who has been killed on the left so not having it is not a big deal.

Telling players that your teammate has died is not the same as showing them where they died . . .

Yes! Fix both!

Especially weapons despawning after 12 seconds. . .

Haha. Thank you.

Why do we need the red X’s? Can’t you just watch the service tags? You do know, when they disappear, that means they died then, and there, right?

Please fix both. Its extremly important to know where a team mate died accurately. Only showing it on the Radar is hardly useful. Having a Red X increases the usefulness of the Team as a whole. Also the weapon despawning is a problem that is deeply embedded into that game. It happens in Campaign, Spartan Op’s, and multiplayer. If it could be fixed it would be awesome

Haha. You’re kidding, right? There’s no way that in a chaotic firefight you’d possibly find the time to ignore your enemies so that you can magically predict which one of your teammates is about to die and stare toward that part of the map until they do. Even if your teammate was to call out to you, and alert you prior to his death, you still may not always find time to locate him. Unless of course, you’re playing inside a box. lol.

Both of those design choices perplex me. It would be nice if they were changed. I find the weapon de-spawning to be the bigger issue, though.

Couldn’t have said it better myself

Actually, I hope that you are kidding. If you don’t pay attention to your teammates’ locations, then there is no reason for you to automatically know where they are. Pay attention or be bad at team gametypes. I do just fine working with my teams, and I don’t even use a mic. Use your intelligence and keep and eye on them.

So you’re saying that you know exactly where your all of your teammates die, in all the the team gametypes you play? That’s laughable. Even if this is the case, you say you play with no mic. That’s advantageous considering that you can focus more on what you see and less on what you hear. Still, you must play in boxes pretty often. Also, I think you are confusing direction with location. Running toward the direction of where your teammates died is not the same as knowing where they died.

Simple fix: Take out kill cams, bring back red X’s. And do not the waypoint above out teammates turn yellow or orange depending on if they’re shooting or are being attacked??

Their name-tag does change in color but I will barely catch your eye whether you are free, in a firefight or focusing on an objective. Also, it won’t do you any good if your teammate dies in an instant (like from power weapons or committing suicide).

To fix the Death X’s, you also have to get rid of instaspawn. Because the pointer can only point on that player, if they instaspawn, the red x will disappear and not stay there for the alloted time the player is dead. But this is a good solution, get rid of insta spawn, return the death x’s, increase weapon despawn to like 30 seconds.

How convenient. I never felt that instaspawn was fitting for Halo. I’m sure plenty of others would agree.

This just goes to show that they made change for the sake of change. Instead of improving the formula(that obviously works), they went and changed it.

Now i’m all for change, but it’s the little things like this that should be left alone.

Yep, definitely needs to be fixed. No one can call-out “1-shot my X” anymore. And also, the weapons despawning in like 10 seconds is very annoying too. My snipers, rockets, etc, are always gone by the time I get to where I died.
EDIT: Yea, I would agree, insta-respawn needs to be removed.

Your completely right! I recently watched a MLG playthrough and the three call out you always hear are: One shot on my X, (Powerweapon) on my X, or (powerweapon) at a location on the map. Once you take away the ability to quickly identify the position of a key target you make strategy remakably more difficult. If you need to remove instant respawn thats fine it wasn’t needed in any other Halo game and it increases the pace of the gameplay as well. One aspect I always like about Halo 3 was how the games were nicely balanced between action and length, you kept players on their toes through a 4 vs. 4 game that could last fifteen to twenty minutes. with instant respawn you cut that time by a third. As for the weapon despawning, it easy fits back into my argument about game pace and length. If you are dead longer you should have more time to retrieve your weapon and allows for more strategic gameplay.
