I suspect some of the Spartans 4 will die in the base game story we will get. In the future tho, I think Halsey is very likely to get killed by Cortana and then chief, he has grown very much on the field (I want him to die). And am not sure what arbie thinks of the banished but am pretty he might have some conflicts with them since he used to be the supreme commander of the covenant. From the sources I have heard it from, 343 is emphasizing John’s humanity even further; with players being able to choose whether or not John takes on a romantic interest with someone (Think Mass Effect but more vanilla given how socially awkward John must be). So, there are four options for Chief to make :
- Choose no one and retire alone. - Retire with Kelly-058, the Spartan he is closest to. - Retire with a geeky ODST girl who is able to coax out John’s more human side. - Retire with a Sangheilian girl, who respects John as both a warrior and eventually as a person.That is the details I know about how the good ending will vary in some aspect. Although I want chief to love someone, mostly cortana, but I think you are going too far with this. Blue is his family. His brothers and sisters. How I see it is that 343 really want to expose chief to his humanity side. They want to make him more emotional and I think this really a good move. But if chief’s ever gonna end up together with someone,its only going to Cortana. And hell, he wont be able to end up with her, as he is the one to kill her but he still can love her right?

I personally don’t think there will be any kind of love interest, at least, certainly not in the game… If they don’t kill him off, I wouldn’t be surprised if a character in a distant book (or maybe even game) from now was John’s son or daughter.
They would serve to show that he did become more human and emotional without directly taking the fans there, and it would also (most likely) immediately make the fans root for John’s kid.
But I really wanted to reply just because of your comment about Cortana.
I don’t get why so many folks think there’s a romance there, even subtly.
I definitely agree some elements of H3 leaned heavily on a romance kind of trope - knight saves beloved damsel kind of thing - but any of those scenes from a different camera angle and with different music would suddenly not seem romantic.
And I personally interpreted their H4 interactions as him feeling protective of her, like he would any of his team, and also being especially vulnerable toward her because she introduced him to a more civilian attitude that he grew to respect.
Perhaps I am reading too deeply in there though.

Yeah they spent only like less than a week together. And there isn’t a romantic relationship between both of them…yet. See, Cortana is the villain now. And before that, she was the one who somewhat dragged the human out of him,in halo 4. When she died, he felt vulnerable. Now, since Cortana is the villain, chief should be the one to kill her. And it doesn’t seem a easy task for him, does it? Thats where I want 343 to advance their relationship. And another thing people say when arguing against their relationship that halo will just work fine without Cortana. No! Stop. Cortana and chief have always been the centre of the halo games.

I highly doubt there will be any “chosen” love interest. I think 343 is set on the Cortana and Chief story with them most likely having some sort of “redo” of Halo 4’s ending. But in this case cortana will be defeated and Chief will try to save her but fail, and the AI uprising will die. But that’s just a theory, i’m sure there will only be one ending where cortana loses and Chief either retires or just continues to be a spartan. But i highly doubt Chief dies

I doubt they would kill the Chief or Locke, but I definitely do see Cortana dying by the hands of Chief, and just maybe she will kill Locke and most likely Halsey. But idk we only know of the Banished so far
Hmmm I like all the above responses, but I will briefly comment on what I think. I do think think this installment will heavily focus on Cortana and Chief, however, the game is going to show in someway a slaughter of Spartan IVs (possibly include Locke). I HOPE that they have a few chapters in the campaign where you see the banished fighting against the Spartans IVs and possibly having Chief fight with them, rather than just seeing a cutscene where they kill off characters cough cough Halo 5 cough cough.
Agent Locke dies from complications on the operating table due to getting a groin hernia from trying to flip a scorpion tank and Commander Sarah Palmer killed from an unfortunate friendly fire incident when first engaging the banished forces on Zeta Halo. Shot 215 times in the back by her own men because let’s be completely honest here, no one likes her.

…you do know that John is close to Kelly, kinda like how Kat and Carter were close? All it would take would be the right choices and circumstances to get them to awkwardly come to that point.
I don’t think they should be focused on killing off major, established characters in this one. I don’t think the majority of the fan base (not the people on forums) really knows much about the state of the universe or it’s characters… In 10 years most of the story work has been in the EU, and of the three major titles 343i has put out, they weren’t all very well received.
Infinite needs to make this as much of a reset as this can be so it can be a good jumping on point for all fans old and new. I don’t think many people would care if any of the newer characters died because they didn’t make much of an impression yet or weren’t that popular.
