Does anyone really get offended when people hear death coms? It’s hilarious if you ask me. Either they are genuinely mad because I wiped my butt on them or they are trying to make me laugh on purpose. Same thing when I die as well.

I think it’s funny too. Trying to limit comms just shelters people. Create a solid report system to root out the morons and then let people have at each others’ throats. Makes for some good trash-talking.

That’s an entirely fair point - a good in-game report system would hopefully prevent the worst offences and provide a safety net.
My faith in other players’ is unfortunately pretty low right now after endless toxic lobbies of people setting up spawnkill farmfests

Understandable. Is that in customs or matchmaking? I feel like the former exists only to provide gratification to people who are otherwise not good at the game and unwilling to try and get better.

I believe to keep up with the times and the trends there should be a Battle Royale, optional mode of course along with MLG as a competitive playlist just like Halo 3. At one time Halo 3 was the BIGGEST game in the world, and COD 4 and MW2 right behind it. I do believe they need to modernize and bring a Battle Royale. They are fun, and would keep people playing together and make the game bigger than It already is. If done right Battle Royale Halo would dominate the gaming market and wipe Fortnite, and Warzone off the map. This game has tons of potential, can’t always stick to your roots. I’ve played every Halo game ever made, and Halo 3 was the best online in my opinion. Halo actually is SET in stone for a battle royale. You already have shield that replinish, random in game loot as well you can pick up. Halo would be HUGE and honestly 343 needs to keep up with the TIMES. This isn’t 2006-2007 where everyone is running around a small map and playing games for hours on hours, most kids and people love battle royales or open world games. That’s what they need to do to keep this franchise alive if they can do it right. As an OG halo player, and multiplayer being the thing you’re going to play most there definitely SHOULD be a BR no matter how stuck you are in your ways. If you truly love Halo you want the best for it, you want this game to be INSANELY POPULAR. Death coms would be great, would make great for YouTube, Twitch or Facebook Gaming content. Bring players to the game, Cod has it and that’s honestly the funnest part about cod. Halo isn’t a childs game either, never was and never will be. Honestly people on your team are more toxic than Death Coms ever could be! Open chat lobbies have been toxic since the beginning of time, nothing to stop it other than a great report system!

The reporting system would need to be very crisp to make it work. Something along the lines of an onscreen button press that instantly sends a copy of the audio straight to 343 (who could then easily use software to screen the audio log for offensive words).
For Battle Royale a death comm is always good content!

Expletives are not an issue imo, in fact I could put any derogatory insult together without a swear word. I’m ok with f-bombs and such. It’s when they’re added to sentences in a degrading manor it becomes an issue for me. It’s the context that’s hurtful, like I’ve said many times before on these topics… “There’s a huge difference between swearing with and at people”
It’s why we have party chat now imo. I remember playing Halo 2 on the original Xbox and yes, we had laughs but there was always players taking it way too far. I don’t want to hear it and I don’t want my children subjected to any online abuse either. I’m not sheltering them though, it’s quite the opposite in this house. They’re educated on how to behave and react to toxic players.
If 343i add death comms or proximity chat it needs to be optional or not forced so players can go to party chat if they feel it’s needed.

Yep. The language during our Tuesday Halo nights is not pretty. But it’s a bunch of mates just T-bagging each other over a couple of beers.
And I agree it’s all about the context of the message.
But I think a robust reporting system needs evidence attached. The current system is clumsy to use where you have to press multiple buttons and then type something (with the controller) to actually send a complaint. Half the time I have to abandon the process because the next game is about to start. We need a one button mechanism.
If I’m able to turn it off then I could care less. I honestly don’t run with many others so I’d prefer not to hear someone who I didn’t want to hear in the first place.
I think the toxicity outweighs its necessity in the game.

Death chat is hilarious. That’s all I have to say.
Proximity chat leads for a lot of interesting situations. You can mess with your enemies, taunt them, etc. I feel like this adds SO much more to multiplayer as a whole.
This is something ive missed for a long time on games, it sounds like a bad feature but it honestly would be great to make people go gamechat for all the banter like the old halo 3 lobbies
I would love both death coms and proximity chat to come back. Part of the charm of multiplayer games back in the day was all the banter on lobbies and mid game, sure people were slinging n words and f words at each other like no tomorrow but it was also fun to listen to some people just crap on each other for the whole length of the match like 4th graders.
I don’t mind the “toxic” playerbase that insults and so on… I can always mute them or laugh at their idiocity. I mean if I could survive MW2 and Halo 3 lobbies when I was 13 I don’t have any problem with people speaking in matches now (and I miss the hell out of it)
I know I might sound “edgy” but I couldn’t care less about toxicity because I don’t care about strangers on the internet flinging insults or whatever they want to say, never have and never will. proximity voice will make the game more alive in my book and lead to hilarious moments

Big Team Battle death comms would be funny, but they would be insanely toxic lol.
Include proximity chat and make it an option, like back in the day. Christ we literally had an option that you could turn on to pair you up with other trash talkers if you wanted to.
Back in the halcyon days of Halo 2, you had death comms and proximity chat and it was sooo much fun. But as the world got more PC and Bungie wanted to make Halo a friendlier experience they stopped it.
massive mistake I remember getting killed and someone saying “ Hey Pure thanks for the ammo, now go and fetch me some more”
