Dear Microsoft, Your 343i project is a failure

Between their work on the Master Chief Collection and Halo 5 Guardian’s, I believe its time for MS to step in and shut down 343 Industries. Here are my reasons:

<ul class=“ordered”> - Consumer trust. This above all else is the most condemning of reasons. When a company intentionally misleads their targeted market, its time to move on. Halo 5’s marketing campaign will be used as a case study one day in college marketing classrooms as a cautionary tale. You can’t promise and show your fan base one thing, and deliver something that is entirely different. From the commercials, to “hunt the truth” to various quotes by senior members of 343i, we were promised “the darkest halo yet”, “an epic campaign featuring a manhunt for a rouge 117” etc etc. How can we trust anything that 343i puts out about upcoming games in the future? - The campaign, UI & lack of social gamemodes in Halo 5 Guardians. 343i makes the decision to eliminate split screen (because of 60fps), questionable decision, but okay, and after making the decision to take out split screen, 343i does the unthinkable, they create a squad based campaign without coop match making for the campaign of Halo 5 Guardians. what exactly was going through the minds of the people who signed off on this… debacle? Furthermore, the AI for each member of your squad is non functional and elementary making the campaign experience not only non enjoyable, but nearly impossible when playing on legendary. Next, the story. The story ties into the first point. It was poorly written, poorly conceived, poorly implemented and poorly executed. Story is everything with a Halo title. How 343i managed to lose sight of this is another condemning reason as to why they should no longer have the right to work on the halo franchise. The UI is a hot mess that is not easy to navigate, especially in warzone, and has not improved much since the game first launched 7+ months ago. The lack of anything social in MP, speaks for itself. - All of the above is following the epic failure of what could’ve been the best game on the Xbox One Console, The Master Chief Collection. 343i needed to hit it out of the park with Halo 5 Guardians based on what transpired with the MCC and they followed up one failure with what appears to be another. [/list]As much as it pains me to say this, I would rather wait 7 years before another Halo title releases, but releases properly, versus repeating the same process over again during the next 3 years and find ourselves in yet exact same position as we are now, unsatisfied, upset and to a certain level, feeling betrayed.
Thank you for reading this, please comment if you would like.

Since opinions are in high value, I personally think 343 is doing perfectly fine and far from failure. Also basing an entire company off of one game is like condemning a restaurant for burning one meal.

I think 343 has done a decent job with Halo, overall, since taking over. Absolutely not perfect by any stretch, but I’ve enjoyed H4 & H5. I look forward to the future.

7 years before the next Halo release? You’ll be in the minority on that one ^

Actually OP isn’t wrong. Plenty of the proper fans are tired of 343i’s mistakes, there not helping the franchise, it’s pretty clear that they’ve offended countless Halo fans, there not suited to working on the Halo IP since they have done nothing right. It’s got to a point where most of us don’t trust 343i. It’s one thing to believe 343i may make a good or bad Halo game but it’s really difficult to dismiss the amount of proof going around about fans generally that have been lied to enough times with things like the marketing for Halo 5.

Only thing I knock them for is their marketing of the campaign otherwise I love what they’ve done with the multiplayer experience and halo in general.

Dear OP, your post is a failure.

I’m so glad we have community members that are business moguls wise enough to offer advice to Microsoft.
Seriously op, just serve me my fries.

i giggled.
to topic:
OP, i don’t think and seriously doubt that Microsoft, a multi billion dollar-company,
will listen to business advices from random forum people like you.
not trying to be rude, but you’ll achieve nothing with this post, no matter how valid or invaild your points are.

what’s the point of attacking other forum members when they speak out on matters such as these? But to address your point, I obtained my undergrad from Northwestern and am working towards my MBA.

Keep in mind… a lot of community members are in their 30’s, college educated and frustrated with 343i’s work product.

If it takes seven years to finish it then they should have taken seven years and release it when it is done and dusted.

Honestly, I don’t wish anyone to get fired.
But 343i failed with Halo4 and failed with the MCC.

Hell, their mobile games SA and SS are buggy and broken at times on windows 10 mobile. But I’m going to ignore those at the moment.

Halo 5 is an improvement, although Halo 5 can be improved drastically. And they are still working to improve Halo 5, so its getting there. So thats good.

Overall, I wouldn’t say 343i is that great… Its just my opinion based off of their 3 Halo games. I don’t think I can trust anything they say anymore.

I would say they got one game right out of 3, that one game being Halo5. But I don’t think I can say they got Halo 5 right with the misleading poor campaign. Its multiplayer is awesome, but lacks a lot of playlists. Like I said, they are still working on Halo 5. So it will be completed some day.

I like Halo 5. I trust 343 more than any other developer.

ground pounds out of thread

You kinda have to remember that it was microsoft who did the marketing they always exaggerate 343 tells them the general story and microsoft blows it out of proportion.I also find this game to be the 2nd best multiplayer wise after halo 2 everything in this game is usable unlike previous halos where only one gun was basically usable while the others shoot marshmallows and the movement is fun the only thing i don’t like is spartan charge but thats it sprint was also nerfed because of community feedback.I also find it funny people think 343 first added armor abilities first even though it was bungie. Also people act like 343 doesnt listen to the community well its funny because they forget that this forge is the best in the whole series and that forge is also coming to pc players so they can create maps for us xbox 1 players. For the mcc part yes it was a horrendous launch but they did the most ambitious thing in the whole game industry where they brought back 4 games on 1 disk remastered halo 2 and made all the other games 1080p 60fps and also kept the engines like they were built for the original games the exact same and they even added multiplayer to halo ce which didnt even have it in 2001.Oh and this all costed 60 dollars where all the other developers probably would have made it 80 to 120 dollars.

Sounds about right, yep many of us are tired of 343i’s work. They messed up 4,5 and they left Halo MCC broken for so long, they mis-led a lot of people with HuntTheTruth and the trailers, I have a degree in Game Design. Sadly I don’t think 343i care what the fans want since they’ve been ignoring us for long enough. I’m mostly tired of the lies going around when it comes to H5 by some of the community too, some claim it’s the best and yet a lot of us disagree strongly and pretty offended by this new generation trying to praise the mistakes that 343i continue to make.

I’m very pleased with Halo 5. Besides the story which didn’t quite meet expectations, everything else has been phenomenal. My only request would be more Dev maps, especially for Warzone. Otherwise forge maps these days look almost as epic as Dev maps. Tyrant though… That’s a -Yoink!- map. I do want more Dev maps if they are going to be that beautiful. So much detail went into that map.

Oh, well then I guess I was totally wrong! Microsoft would be fools to not heed your advice. I’m sure you’d out-degree everyone on staff.

Please shut up about split screen already. 60fps trumps it all day. I don’t care that its what you did in college or with your little brother/cousin/friend/girlfriend or whoever. It sucks and you people need to let it go.

If making a lot of money and producing high-quality games is criteria for failure in your eyes, what does success look like?

Honestly MCC was a huge undertaking for any studio, and to include all multiplayer maps with it was incredible. I understand the frustration with the matchmaking component but you had 4 games to play through. I personally enjoyed all of my time with the MCC, when I couldn’t play online I just played through the campaigns. I was impressed with the way they put everything together and made all four into one package.

Halo 4 was hands down had the best story line in my opinion, multiplayer was meh. But I still played it for a while.

I think their next installment will be great if they can capture the feel of Halo 4’s story and Halo 5’s multiplayer. Just my opinion though.
