Dear 343i, Please give me the option to spend my XP on the gear unlocks I choose

Is anybody else frustrated with the fact that there’s a predetermined unlock path for gear in Infinite? Halo 5 had random loot boxes such that I never got several pieces of gear I really wanted despite lots of playtime. Now Halo Infinite is forcing me to get through all the BP levels to get what I really want at/near the end of it.

Why can’t there be an in-game currency based on XP with a store where the majority of unlocks are there with a price? 343i can make some highly desirable gear expensive, but at least it would be attainable for players that don’t have time to progress though an entire BP system to get the gold at the end of the rainbow. This would allow people to focus on unlocking what they really care about and play with the customized spartan they want to, even if it means they overall unlock fewer items.

Additionally, 343i can have various unlocks based on achievements, challenges, career rank, and events. These would all drive additional player engagement on top of the in-game, XP-based store. I do not believe this setup would result in less player engagement (343i/MS wins) and it would show the industry how to be player-first with a progression system (players win).

Make a great product (cool unlocks) and people will pay and/or work towards it. Players will be engaged. I don’t understand why game decision makers seem to think they have to be predatory with gamers’ time and money in order to get players engaged.

Well to be fair, Infinite is hardly the first Halo where you had a linear path to unlocks. Reach started that by limiting the gear you could purchase with your CR until you reached a certain rank, meanwhile MCC has a linear progression as well even though you can save up SP to purchase cosmetics in the exchange if that’s your fancy. I don’t see it as the end of the world to have a linear progression through the BP and have other armor options purchasable through the store as long as the prices are reduced.

That said I’m hoping the campaign unlocks have some cool looking armors.

True, but MCC has the exchange at least, which helps a lot with having no control over unlocks.

Regardless, do we have to stick to a system just because it’s been used before?
