Dear 343i, I have an alternative, sensible Camo nerf proposal.

I’ve done it. You’ve done it. We’ve all done it. Everyone has taken Sniper and Camo at some point, and sat at the back crouching behind a shroud of invisibility waiting for someone to pop their head out so your rifle can take it off.

343 have proposed to nerf Camo by reducing the effect of standing still, and reducing the duration you can stay in Camo altogether.

I think that, given that -blam!-s like myself who are happy to sit at the back in Camo being a complete pain in the -Yoink- for the other team never need the whole 3 hours in Camo that a whole bar gives, that this is still not an appropriate fix.

The problem is not that they can sit there for a long time. The problem is that they can sit there undiscovered and shoot you, which I did in my past game, and I went 15 for 1. It’s totally lame.

Not only that, but Active Camo + Sniper gives bad players a chance to succeed where they failed against a better player.

Take the game on Asylum I just played.

I sprinted to our sniper, and a player on the other team sprinted to theirs. I managed to outsnipe him.

Rather than Sprinting back to his old Sniper to be bested by me again, he chose Camo. While I was focussing on other targets, he nailed me, easily.

There is only one solution for me now. As he now has Camo and Sniper, I must now go to the same level of asshatery as him (it’s a word), and also go Camo and grab my Sniper. I manage to snipe him again, but the fact that the game got to the stage where we were forced into a situation of having to choose Camo to best the other player is nothing short of ridiculous.

My proposal is this.

Leave the Active Camo time exactly the same as it is. However, make it so that you cannot enter a scope while you’re in Camo - entering scope and having camo on decloaks you. This would prevent people from doing what both him and I had to do in the last game - go Camo to beat the other guy.

Camo’s disadvantage is that your (and their) motion sensor becomes scrambled. If you enable people to sit at the back with Camo and Sniper, then they’re not suffering any disadvantage. They can sit at the back all day and you don’t even know they’re there.

So consider my alternative nerf - it makes more sense.

It really really makes me laugh how camping is the biggest issue with camo yet Bungie encouraged it by giving a bonus to people who sit still and make runners visible.

OT: It’s a nice idea, but should only affect the sniper IMO. And 343i should do this, remove the bonus time for sitting still, and make runners remain invisible.

I don’t think it should knock you of camo, but it should make you visible if you scope.

I think camo should have been and always should be a power up you fight for on the map.

The best way to balance it is to remove it, and put it as a power up. That way you’ll have true camo while standing still and running. The only thing they have to do is fix the power up properties.

I agree that Camo should always be a power up that you fight for, but I don’t think that’s likely. Point is, 343i are going to nerf it, but I feel that my nerf is more appropriate for fixing the problem at hand.

Honestly, AC doesn’t need a nerf in my opinion, but if this gets fixed:

then I may not even care about the nerf.

Camo’s biggest issue BY FAR is camo sniping.

Maybe reduce the time of cloacking while scoping ?

I honestly don’t see too much of an issue with Camo as it is. It used to be my favorite powerup till I discovered that camping with it put me at a considerable disadvantage to surviving. I know that sounds a bit silly, but the dampened noise and jammed radar can really make you unaware of your surroundings. Use that to your advantage and you’ll be able to sneak up on a camo player, as has happened to me many times. Another disadvantage it has is that it also gives you away very easilly. If you see your radar being jammed, you know he is near you and you just have to work your way to the center of the jamming radius to find him. It works even better if he doesn’t attack and waits for you to pass him by.

I use sprint 98% of the time. I’m not saying that it’s not a bogus AA, but what I am saying is that there are counters to all AAs, and this one isn’t impossible or very hard to counter. I mean if you know he is in camo mode, you know that he probably can’t see you or hear you sprint up to him, and so he’s done for. But considering how all of the AAs in the game are poorly implemented one way or the other, your nerf sounds not only reasonable, but good.

Of course there are counters to it, but the fact that I am forced to go Camo too because he cocked up and was able to go invisible and get a second chance is totally lame and it’s just a bad gameplay mechanic. The biggest issue with Camo, as stated in this thread, is camo sniping. 343’s fix does not solve the problem. Mine does.

I’d say he did the sensible thing. Why would he put himself in your line of sight knowing that you have a sniper? Of course he will go invisable to counter that. You, in turn, countered him. Sounds like smart gameplay to me.

No. Smart gameplay is when you use your skills and your knowledge to counter what the other guy has. Someone getting outsniped and then going camo so that I can’t see him - something which I had no opportunity to do even after beating him the first time, nor have knowledge that he went camo, is not smart gameplay. It’s the game giving the guy a second chance because he messed up the first time.

Your statement is akin to, “Complete invincible AL is smart gameplay because it gives your team 6 seconds to get to you.”

No. It’s not smart gameplay. It’s the game handing you a second chance because you screwed up the first time.

> I don’t think it should knock you of camo, but it should make you visible if you scope.

Aren’t they the same thing? That’s what I mean, if you have camo on and you scope in with a weapon, your camo decloaks until you exit scope again.

> Maybe reduce the time of cloacking while scoping ?

That’s another possibility, but it still allows for people to be annoying as hell with it, unless it’s a big time reduction.

> I think camo should have been and always should be a power up you fight for on the map.

This. In every Halo game it was a power-up every team fought over somewhere on the map. MLG still does this in Reach today and it works out quite well.

Because MLG should be the cornerstone of all Halo ideas. Although I agree camo should be a pickup, but not because MLG does it.

If anything They should buff it and make it a pick up. They should make every Equipment a power up besides sprint in every non-joke playlist. The Active Camo as it is isn’t useful for anything besides Camo Sniping. Make Moving keep you completely cloaked To make it have some use.
